Year 8 and 11 Camp

Anglesea

Camp Write Up

Bright and early on Wednesday morning, our Year 8 & 11 students had a spring in their step as they journeyed down to Anglesea for our much-anticipated school camp. After a very musical bus ride, students bounded out ready to hit the surf. The cool conditions didn’t deter the students from showcasing their skills, with all of our students managing to make the best of the surf. Students had a ball, and very much enjoyed laughing at some teachers spending more time underwater than on top of their board. Students tested their balance and coordination while attempting stand up paddleboarding, staying dry for the most part, despite the best efforts of some of their teachers.  We were able to witness incredible wildlife whilst snorkelling, including stingrays, banjo sharks and pufferfish. It was fantastic for our students to be able to experience this sort of nature up close and personal.

Along with our organised activities, students flourished in organising their own downtime activities including cricket, frisbee and card games. The stop off at Adventure Park Geelong was a great way to finish the camp. We all braved the wind in order to seek thrills on many rides, with the tornado being the unanimous favourite. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable experience made possible with amazing students.

Our students should be commended on the way they represented the college and interacted well with each other. A big thank you to Mr Sanders and Mr Thorn for driving the buses all week. - Mr. Moyle

Exactly 1 week ago the 2021 Yr 8s and 11s went on their Anglesea camp. We were so lucky with what activities we were able to do such as surfing, stand up paddleboarding, snorkelling and canoeing. On the way back we were also fortunate to go to the Geelong water park. My favourite thing about camp was probably surfing. It was funny to watch as your friends got wiped out by the waves. It was a little bit tricky to begin with but then at the end, it was super fun. Although the conditions got worse and the wind was wild it still made the whole experience worth it. I had an amazing time away with my friends.

Last Friday the year eight and eleven students came back from a three day camp at Anglesea. We got to do surfing, snorkelling, stand up paddleboarding, canoeing and on the way home, we stopped at the Geelong water park. My favourite activity was stand up paddleboarding. We went paddleboarding in the Anglesea River. When we arrived we found our instructor and she told us all we needed to know about stand up paddleboarding. When we got out on the water it wasn't long until someone fell in. I will admit I fell in a few times but not long after most of my friends also fell in. I had a great time at this camp and really enjoyed most of the activities.

A week ago the Yr. 8s and Yr. 11s went to Angle Sea for their camp. It was heaps of fun. We did a heap of water activities, surfing lessons, paddle boarding, snorkelling, Canoeing and we were fortunate to spend the last day at the Geelong Waterpark. My personal favourite was the Geelong water park. Even though it was really busy, it was worth the wait. It was so fun hearing everyone scream like babies on the big rides (especially Mrs Pellegrino). It was a little chilly there but that didn't stop us from having heaps of fun. After the Geelong water park, it was a long drive home on the minibus, I'm pretty sure everyone slept on the bus at one point. Luckily for Ms Kellet, Amanda and Mr Thorn, I think our great singing stopped them from having a sleep.

Anglesea camp was the perfect way to cap off year 11! After a year of hard work, it was awesome to spend three days at the beach. As I stepped off the bus after arriving at camp, the memories of experiencing this camp in year 8 started flooding back! Even after three years, summoning the brainpower to construct a four-man tent was still challenging, but three of my friends and I eventually managed. Over the three days, we completed multiple activities, including stand up paddleboarding (just ask Mr. Thorn how that went), snorkelling, surfing and kayaking. It’s safe to say that the year 8s and year 11s gelled well together and enjoyed each other’s company, both sharing their eagerness to give each activity their best shot. Many laughs were had during the night, whether as a result of Lewis’ numerous card games or the competitive and sometimes hostile, playing of ‘Mafia’. The camp was topped off with a visit to Adventure Park. Overall, Anglesea camp was tremendous and I’d like to extend my gratitude to the staff involved; you helped make the camp memorable and your efforts did not go unnoticed. Thank you.

All year 8 and year 11 students had a great time at Anglesea camp. Some of the highlights of the camp included learning to surf on the first day which was entertaining to witness most people fall off their surfboards. On the last day, we went to Geelong Adventure Park where the water rides were exhilarating and fun, although the weather was a little bit windy and chilly. Overall, it was a wonderful way to close the school year at the beach, and we appreciate all of the teachers who came.
