Middle Years News
The Middle School team would like to extend a huge warm welcome to all Koonung families for the 2022 school year! We ask all families to take the time to read the newsletter, the College website and Compass to ensure that they are aware of what is happening within the Koonung Secondary College community. Compass is regularly updated with important school information and the many activities taking place.
Our school motto “Excellence through Endeavour”, stands at the core of the work that we do here at Koonung Secondary College, and we thank you for entrusting us with the care of your students. We will work in line with the school ethos to ensure the best outcomes for your students throughout their secondary school journey.
On Monday, January 31st, we welcomed 215 new Year 7s to the school with an assembly, before guiding students to their lockers and classes to begin their high school journeys. There were many nervous and excited faces as they met their classmates and settled into secondary college life. I, myself, am also new to Koonung Secondary College this year, and have been able to share in the excitement and anxieties of coming to a new school with the Year 7s (including getting lost on the way to class!). The Middle School team also wants to extend a huge thank you to the wonderful members of the Parents and Friends Association who were present to welcome the Year 7 parents with tea and coffee.
For any issues, or students who need additional supports, please remind them that help can be found in the Middle Years Centre (located on the south side of the school). Our dedicated team of coordinators are here to support students with any issues, or even just to have a chat.

MIDDLE SCHOOL REMINDERS
- Year 7 Sport Education Day is Thursdays, students are to wear their PE uniform all day
- Year 8 Sport Education Day is Wednesdays, students are to wear their PE uniform all day
- Live Life casual dress days, students are to wear neat casual clothing
- School starts at 8.50am, first bell at 8:40am
- Students and parents must check Compass every day for room and class changes
- Students are encouraged to bring drink bottles in the warmer weather.
- If your child has Physical Education during the day, they must check the lesson plan the night before to determine if it is a practical or theory class. Practical class - they can wear their PE uniform all day. Theory class - academic uniform all day
- Sports equipment can be borrowed at recess and lunchtime at the Middle Years Centre
- Students should be using ‘My Tasks’ on compass to record day to day homework
