Senior School News
Welcome
Welcome to the 2022 school year at Koonung Secondary College. A particularly warm welcome is extended to families who are new to the Koonung community. We would ask all families to take the time to read the Newsletter and also the College website and Compass to ensure that they are aware of what is happening within the Koonung Secondary College Community. Compass is regularly updated with important school information and the many activities taking place.
Thank you for entrusting your children’s education to Koonung Secondary College. As a whole school community, it is our goal that the young people in our care strive for their very best by displaying the school values and always having the school moto at the forefront of everything they do “Excellence through Endeavour”.
We began the 2022 school year in a very smooth manner, it is wonderful to see all the students back onsite.
The Year 12 cohort started the day with an assembly meeting the Senior School team, and got straight into meeting some of their teachers as formal classes began.
There was a real buzz in the air on Tuesday with the entire school back in action. We welcomed the Year 10 and 11 students who have all grown so much over the summer. Students spent most of the morning eagerly catching up with friends and teachers. But once the formal day started they switched straight into learning mode as they met their new coordinators and moved into their respective classes. Our students seem pleased to be back at school after a long summer break. They are ready to settle into the school routine and look forward to embracing the many learning opportunities and co-curricular activities.
At Koonung, we value a strong sense of school pride and community spirit. We want our students to be proudly representing Koonung through their uniform. Please note, Year 12 jackets are on their way. We hope this enhances the students’ sense of connection and belonging to the school.

Senior School Testimonials
Year 10
I’m now in senior school! I was so excited yet nervous to come back to school, because I felt like I was unprepared and had so many more responsibilities than usual, but I’m back on track and ready to have a great year! It was so good to see my friends as well as my nice teachers again, and I can’t wait to finally start my senior school journey. I’m really looking forward to playing in multiple interschool sport teams again as well as studying VCE Health and Human Development units 1 and 2.

Year 11
Being back at school is both an exciting and apprehensive experience! Starting VCE is a big deal, and with that comes a lot of responsibilities like studying but also rewards like formal. As of last year I studied a unit 1&2 subject (business management) and this taught me the importance of applying myself but also having a balanced lifestyle. Hopefully this year I will have the ability to continue this mindset as I begin 5 other VCE subjects. I am looking forward to participating in interschool sports such as netball and swimming, and with that I hope I will stay in onsite learning with my friends.

Year 12
Final year of school, Year 12! Looking forward to what’s hopefully going to be an eventful, exciting and jam-packed year full of good times and memories that’ll last a lifetime. Formal, school sports days, valedictory, exams, a final assembly – fingers crossed it can be a year with no interruptions, either way it’s going to be an amazing experience spending this final year with the awesome friends and teachers I’ve been privileged enough to spend the last 5 years with. It’s going to be hard work, but I look forward to being able to move on to that next chapter in life!
