Mr John Ryan - Deputy Principal

College Theme for 2022

At the conclusion of 2022 our College Student Mission Team ruminated about their recommendation for the 2022 College Theme. After much consideration the theme for the year was chosen.

'Be a gift of love and compassion’     Mary MacKillop 1899

This theme encapsulates the heart of the Josephite charism. Our College strives to be ambassadors of the love and compassion. Sometimes we don’t live up to these expectations, but we are always striving to help grow young people. One way we do this, is through our love and care of the students entrusted to us each day. Affirming our students is one delightful way we recognise the talents and virtues exhibited by our students. We do this explicitly by awarding commendations on a daily basis.

Commendations

This year our College has introduced Commendations to their SIMON platform. These commendations may also be viewed on PAM. In our first two academic weeks 53 Commendations have been awarded. Commendations are given for a variety of virtuous qualities. Here is a sample list.

Some of the wonderful comments made so far about students are as follows: (For privacy reasons names have been removed

Comment One

Super pleased to see the effort Student A has gone to in order to get prepared for Middle School - Parent called. Student A had her timetable colour coded and printed. I also asked the class to use the Mac Calendar to get themselves organised. Student A was great at sharing her knowledge with her peers – much appreciated

Comment Two

Student B made good choices in selecting her seating location in class to assist her learning, then worked well to complete the required class tasks.

Comment Three

Student C is doing exceptionally well in Applied Maths, he uses his own initiative to work through maths problems and often assists others near him with clues to solve their own work.

1. Discuss the matter with any Mary MacKillop College staff member that they feel

comfortable with;

2. The staff member will advise the student that they need to document the

conversation and confirm whether the student will feel comfortable with the School

Counsellor or another Child Safety Officer assisting in recording their concerns;

3. The Mary MacKillop staff member (together with the Child Safety Officers where the

child has consented) will discuss the matter with the student and take appropriate

notes, observations and records
