Class of 2021 Results
Congratulations to the class of 2021
Our 2021 class achieved outstanding results. This cohort met the challenges that a second year of the COVID-19 pandemic threw at them and really achieved their best. We are so proud of the resilience that our students showed throughout the periods of remote learning last year and their dedication to their work was shown by the results.
An impressive 25% of our students received ATARs over 90 and 50% of our students received ATARs over 80. The median ATAR was 80. As part of this, a substantial number of students received study scores of 40+, which places them in the top 9% of results in the state. In addition 92% of our VCAL students achieved satisfactory completion.
DUX of 2021
Congratulations to Felix Wong who achieved an ATAR of 99.15and the DUX of Northcote High School in 2021. At the end of the year we asked Felix about his school experience and some tips for our 2022 senior students.
Where are you planning to study?
I'm hoping to study biomedicine at Melbourne University
How long have you been a Northcote High School student?
I have been at NHS since year 7
What was the most challenging about completing Yr12 in a year of COVID and lockdowns?
Trying to pay attention and keep focused during classes while so many distractions were so easily available. However, I do think lockdowns have advantaged me, I became more productive and got far more done each day, mostly due to the fact that, while on-site, I talked to my friends all class instead of learning.
What has been most rewarding about this year
Probably just doing well in school academically, last year I failed most of my year 11 exams and it was nice to be able to prove that I am still able to highly achieve.
What was you favourite subject
For the majority of the year it was specialist maths, there's something very satisfying about being able to solve complex problems, however it often shifted between spec and biology. I really enjoyed the biology content and I feel as though the course is taught especially well at Northcote.
Most memorable moment this year
Probably the second specialist maths exam which left everyone I know absolutely distraught. It was the hardest exam I've ever done and I just remember reading through it and thinking that I'm completely screwed. I think I left about 20% of that exam blank and I've never had to randomly shade in multiple choice boxes with 20 seconds to go before that day. At least reading everyone's reactions to it was funny.
Do you have any words of advice for other students in the future
I'd say the most important thing to achieve highly is consistency in study, if you spend a set amount of time studying each day eventually it becomes a habit and you'll feel weird if you don't study. Also if you get any homework or extra work do it the same day you get it, it's less stressful this way. Although, make sure to leave some time to relax, otherwise you'll get burnt out.
Anything else you would like to add
Thank you to all my teachers, I feel as though I got really lucky with having them all, they were excellent and super supportive even through lockdown. And I wish luck to all future VCE students.
