Student Services : Careers
Welcome Back!
A big welcome to all our new students and families, and welcome back to everyone returning after the summer break. Here’s hoping that 2022 is a smoother run for all and that we can focus on our core business of exploring, learning and achieving our potential.
For those new to the school, Careers are part of the Student Services team at NHS, and consists of Booma (Careers Practioner) and Lou (VET/Careers Admin.). We are here to provide information, counselling, curriculum for teachers and run programs which assist students to develop the skills they will need to manage their career journey over a lifetime in an ever-changing world.
Speaking of change, we are no longer using the myNorthcoteHigh system to interface all the careers resources and information.

Class of 2021 - off on their next adventures
One of the highlights of my summer is following the journeys of all our school leavers, especially our Year 12 cohort. The class of 2021 worked through their VCE or VCAL in incredibly challenging circumstances over two years. Their outstanding results were an absolute credit to them and have opened up a world of opportunities.
There have been 251 offers made to our students to continue onto tertiary study in 2022 (from 257 applications). Some of the biggest interest areas for our students were Science/Maths (53), Arts (36), Allied Health Services (34), Business (33), Creative Arts (23), Engineering (14), Building Design and Construction (14) and Medicine (12). Many others are pursuing further study in Law, Education, Sports, Design, IT, Hospitality, Animal Services and Beauty/Hair Services.
We also have a number of students who have secured Apprenticeships and will work towards a trade qualification over the next few years.
Most students are working at least part time, with many exciting opportunities for them in a buoyant employment market.
With such an accomplished and well-rounded group of students we have also heard from quite a few students who have been offered scholarships, cadetships and opportunities to study overseas.
There are still three rounds of tertiary offers to come and we look forward to working with the graduates of 2021 over the next month to finalise their transition.
