Luna Community Report

Term 1, 2022

Introduction

What a great start to the year for the Luna Community students!

Michelle, Filia and Shae are so proud of the way the preps have begun to settle into the school routine and show a love of learning during this big transition.

Literacy

In Literacy during term 1 we focus on exploring reading and writing, our students are exposed to modelled fluent reading by their teachers each day, we discuss concepts about print and comprehension with a focus on oral language.

The Luna preps are learning how to correctly hold a pencil using the ‘alligator grip’. We are engaging in lots of fine motor activities to build up our hand muscles to help us with our writing.

Maths

In Luna Community, we have been practicing numbers 1 to 5 and 2D shapes. Our students work on tracing and writing numbers 1-5. They have enjoyed making shapes and representing numbers 1-5 in multiple ways. Our Luna community students are also learning how to make patterns and different 2D shapes, and can understand that math is really fun!

SEL

The Luna Community has started to show positive behaviour towards their learning, others, the school and themselves. The children also discussed ways to stay safe in the play areas. Understanding which Zone of Regulation they're in has also been a focus, with children being able to identify how they feel and why they feel that way. The children also had so much fun spending time with their Big Buddies from Year 5/6.

Friendly Reminders

  • From September through to the end of April, all students must wear a Sunsmart hat when they are outside.
  • Please label all food containers, lunch boxes, drink bottles, hats and jumpers. If items are lost and they have your child’s name on them they will be quickly returned to you.
  • The Blue ‘Take Home Reader Bag’ is to put the students' ‘Take Home Books’ into. Please ensure the ‘Take Home Reader Bag’ comes to school every Wednesday and Friday. Students will change their books on these days and teachers will sign their reading journal once a week.
  • Please do not bring toys to school as they cause distraction to learning.
