Italian

with Signora Michelle and Signora Steph

❤️Ciao! We are very excited to start our second year of Italian at

Aitken Hill Primary School!❤️

We are proud to present our AHPS teacher Stephanie Cundari as a part of the Italian teaching team in 2022. This term, Signora Steph is teaching Grade 1/2, and Signora Michelle is teaching Prep, 3/4 and 5/6.

This year we have started revising the Italian alphabet and discussing the similarities and differences between the Italian and English letters and sounds. The Italian letter sounds are similar, but there are only 21 letters in the traditional Italian alphabet. Italian acknowledges the remaining 5 letters (J, K, W, X and Y) for internationally used English words, such as jeans and wi-fi.

We will also learn and revise some of the greetings, numbers and calendar vocabulary!

We are very excited about

C A R N E V A L E! (Italian Carnival) coming up on Tuesday the 1st of March!

To support our LOTE program by exploring Italian culture, students will be encouraged to wear their carnival ‘masquerade’ masks made in Italian class, and we will come to school dressed in costume to celebrate the Italian carnival season. Costumes can be any fancy dress, as children in Italy sometimes dress up as their favourite characters, such as superheroes or movie characters – but traditionally the Italian carnival costumes are kings and queens, and court jesters – so be creative! If you Google ‘Venetian Carnival’ you can find some great ideas. Special activities will be organised to encourage the festive nature of carnival: creative expression and a celebration of life! Your costume is only limited by your imagination - so have fun thinking of interesting ideas, use what you have at home, and wear whatever makes you happy.

We look forward to seeing everyone's costumes and carnival masks at AHPS' Italian Carnival Day!

Grazie Mille, (Many Thanks)
