LEARNING DIVERSITY

Welcome back to an already busy school year. Once again, I feel like time is accelerating and we are well into the year already! The impact of COVID-19 is an ongoing challenge and we continue to problem solve to ensure students are receiving the support that will benefit their learning.

In the Learning Diversity Department, we have been slowly updating and modernising our systems, and I am pleased to announce that we have now transitioned all data onto the SIMON Learning Platform. Over the holidays and in Term 4 of 2021, I progressively updated all our student’s personal learning plans into a new format. This format describes very clearly the impact of a child’s learning difficulties for teachers and enables a clear understanding of how to provide reasonable adjustments for each child, with resources for support. These new Personal Learning Plans will be reviewed with parents in the upcoming Program Support Group Meetings to ensure the plans accurately describe the learning challenges of your child and that the adjustments and goals benefit their learning progression.

Invitations for the Program Support Group Meetings have been sent in the Activities Module of PAM to streamline and speed up communication with parents while storing all the information in a central location. Accompanying this invitation is the request for a digital signature. I will discuss this with parents in the Program Support Group Meetings. The Personal Learning Plans will be released to parents in PAM in week 5 once teachers have written their own goals and adjustments for individual students.

I have had a number of parents contact me regarding their child’s academic challenges at school, and I look forward to progressing with a deeper understanding of their needs in order to provide support to progress their learning. If you feel your child is having difficulties at school, you are very welcome to contact me to discuss this.
