SCHOOL LEADERSHIP MESSAGE

PRINCIPAL'S REPORT
It has been a busy start to Term 1, 2022 with the Year 12s and Year 8s out on camp. Year 7s are scheduled to attend camp in Week 5. The distribution of Rapid Antigen Tests has been another huge task and John and I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Education Support Staff for their work on this. As mentioned in emails to families, we are experiencing some staffing shortages as cases of COVID impact on our staff, as well as the normal illnesses of day to day life. We appreciate our community’s support and patience as we manage the school during this, another unique iteration of the pandemic.
Building Works
In exciting news, the building works are progressing smoothly. In the coming months there will be some pressure onsite and parents especially may experience a lack of parking at the school. Just a reminder that parking in the bus loop during bus drop off and pick up times will cause a problem! The buses literally can’t get around the corner if cars are parked on the right hand side. As mentioned in the past, congestion at drop off and pick up times usually clears within 10 minutes. Students should no longer be at the front of the school during breaks as we may have trucks and large machinery coming in and out. It was felt that this was the safest option for everyone. Parents, please also be aware that for much of this year, parts of our site will be also be a construction zone and be mindful of safety. Year 12s, as the year progresses, we may have a shortage of parking spaces, unfortunately, you may not be able to assume that you will be able to bring your cars this year. More information will be provided to our Year 12s as works’ progress.
School Council Elections
Parents and students will receive information shortly regarding School Council Elections. Being on School Council is a great way to support your child’s education and it is an exciting time especially this year to be part of KSC because of our building works. We meet twice a term on a Tuesday evening, either face to face or via Zoom. Meetings generally go for an hour to an hour and a half. A big part of what makes this school great is the strong contributions from our community.
Parent Payments
We cannot express enough how appreciative we are and have been of Korumburra community’s response to the change to the Parent Payment Policy. Truthfully, the changes to the policy make it incredibly difficult for schools both financially and administratively. We are aware that for parents too, the new system is less than ideal and makes it challenging to understand what is owing. As we are restricted now by what we can distribute to parents, for example we are not allowed to issue invoices, the best way, if you are unsure about what you need to pay for, is to give us a call on 5655 1566. A couple of parents have also asked about account balances where they may have been in credit from 2021. Again, if we can help with this, please ring and we will be really happy to clarify this over the phone.
Year 7 O Week
We had a fantastic start to Year 7; our new students have been excited to learn about their new school and have settled into secondary with remarkable ease – well done. Thank you to our new parents for the obvious support you have given your child/ren in being organised and ready for Year 7.
School Numbers
Our school is growing! Our student numbers are at 370 which is an increase of over 70 students from 2018. The community of Korumburra is growing and thriving, and we remain greatly privileged to be a part of the town’s development.
