Message from the P&F

On Monday 20th February, the Parents and Friend’s Committee held our first General

Meeting for 2023. Thank you to all who joined us. It was great to see some new faces

amongst the familiar.

There was a lot to discuss, with many great ideas for social gatherings and fundraising

opportunities.  Part of the role and purpose of the Parents and Friends Committee is to

raise funds for the whole school community.  Last year’s fundraising efforts went towards the newly refurbished basketball area, spheros, decodable readers and the grade 6 yearbook.

We rely on the hard work of volunteers to make any event run successfully.  Please look out

for an Operoo message to register your interest in volunteering throughout the year.

Save These Dates!

QOP Family and Friends Fun Night:

On the 3rd of March, from 4:30pm, we will be hosting our first ever Family and Friends Fun

Night.  It is sure to be a great night with lots of exciting games to be played, including Giant

Jenga, Connect 4,  Sack Races and many more.  Pack a picnic, or grab a treat from the food vans and enjoy a fun filled afternoon.

Tickets for this event is currently on QuickCliq

Hot Cross Bun Day:

As part of our Easter celebrations, we will be hosting our Annual Hot Cross Bun Day on the

last day of Term 1. The kids get to enjoy a locally sourced hot cross bun. We will require volunteers to help butter and distribute the Hot Cross Buns for our children on 6th

April @ 8.30am.   An Operoo note will be coming out in March if you would like to volunteer for this event.

Keep your eyes out on other events throughout the year, including a Mothers Social Night,

Fathers Social Night, and a Trivia Night. More information on these events will be provided

closer to the date.

Lastly, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our new 2023 P&F Committee :-

Reminder from the Office

If children are to be picked up before the end of school (for medical or dental appointments etc) parents should advise the teacher via Seesaw. Parents should report to the office and sign their child out on the iPad and the child will be called to the office. **To avoid disruption to classes could you please pick up your child  at the end of a learning session i.e. 10:50am or 1:40pm. It is the school’s preference that all appointments are made after school hours or during school holidays where possible.

Sports News

It has been an exciting start to the new year as we had 58 students, from Year 3 to 6, trial to make our District Swim Team on Friday the 17th of February at the Bayfit Leisure Centre. They were asked to swim 50 metres in one or more of the 4 strokes of freestyle, backstroke, breastroke and butterfly.  Thank you to the parents and staff who helped out on the day to make everything run smoothly, especially with the extremely hot weather. Well done to all students who trialed with their best effort on the day and congratulations to the students who have been chosen to represent our school on the 2nd of March at the Werribee Outdoor Pool as we wish them good luck!

We were able to have two coaches from Altona Hockey Club come into school to run a clinic for the Year 2 students and promote the sport on the 6th of February. It has been positive to hear that a few of our students were keen to continue this outside of school and are currently participating in weekday afternoon clinics at the club. As we approach the 2023 Footy Season, the Prep to Year 2 students will be participating in a 2 week AFL clinic during PE lessons, run by the AFL in Weeks 8 and 9 .

All Year 6 students have been selected into teams for the Summer Interschool Sport Laverton District Competition. They have begun training on Friday afternoons at school to prepare themselves to compete on the following days and locations:

30th March:

Basketball - Altona Stadium Cricket - Altona Green

Hockey - Altona Hockey Club

4th April:

Tennis - Bayside College Tennis Courts

Tee Ball - Greenwich Res Newport

Sustainability

Many of the children enjoy maintaining our garden and surrounds.  Here is Samuel helping with the watering.
