Visual Arts

The Visual Arts Program at Greenvale Primary School provides students with the opportunity to develop a range of different art skills. Throughout the year students will explore drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, construction and clay making.

Students will have Visual Arts in the following semesters:

Semester 1: Foundation, Year 1&2, Year 3&4.

Semester 2: Foundation, Year 1&2, Year 5&6.

Term 1 Focus Area

This term all students will focus on drawing, painting and printmaking. They will be introduced to the 2023 Art Show theme ‘What a Wonderful World’. They will make a large scale collaborative mural and individual artworks inspired by our ‘Wonderful World’ of nature, animals, food, colour and people.

Foundation: Students will be introduced to the Visual Arts program. They will learn about safety and the correct use of materials within the art room. Students will be encouraged to develop fine motor skills through drawing, cutting, collage and painting. They will explore line, colour and shape within their artwork.

Year 1&2: Students will explore how Visual Arts can be used to communicate experiences, observations and imagination. They will focus on how line, shape and colour can be used to create pattern and how pattern can enhance artworks.

Year 3&4: Students will be encouraged to plan and make artworks that are inspired by different artists. They will focus on line and how it can be used to create pattern and texture in artworks. Students will explore warm, cool and contrasting colours. They will look at how colour can be used to create ‘mood’ in artworks.

Most importantly all children will be encouraged to be creative, develop their own individual style and to have fun!
