From the Head of Sport

The finals are drawing near and it was great to see all players kept the majority of their fitness over the holidays. Just a reminder that training is compulsory for all players and you must ensure that you communicate with your MIC if you have an issue attending either training or games.

Presentation Evenings

Presentation evenings will be held in Week 10. If you have been taking photos throughout the season can you please arrange to pass them onto your MIC so that they can use them as part of their presentation evening.

Match Reports, Saturday, 4th February

Tennis

Round 7:  The games last Saturday were played in Orange. At the training on Friday, the coach Nicole asked each player to have one goal for the rest of the season, and gave tips to each of them to help them improve and reach their goal.

We played against Kinross Orange. BMGS Evens played Kinross Odds, so our Number 2 was playing their Number 1; 4 played 3; 6 played 5, etc.

Neil joined our team officially this year and we warmly welcome him. Neil won his singles with many people watching the exciting tennis that both players were producing. Noah also won a set in his singles, which was a great result for him.  Evens lost 16 sets to 3.

The BMGS Odds played Kinross Evens, so now our Number 1 was playing their Number 2, etc. Jesse and David were successful in both their singles and doubles. I think that David is going for the award of having the longest matches, winning 10-8 in the final tiebreak.

Otto and Jed both won a set and were happy with their game, Jed narrowly missing 8-6 in his tiebreak. The Odds lost 13 sets to 8.

We will be in Bathurst this weekend for Round 8.

Girls' Touch Football

Firsts vs Scott’s All Saints (loss)

Firsts vs Kinross Wolaroi School (loss)

Although the results of the games did not go in their favour, the BMGS Girls' Firsts should be commended for their efforts and sportsmanship. The girls' hard work, determination, and never-give-up attitude was on full display. Losing two games is never easy, but the girls' effort and positive attitudes were a testament to their character and the spirit of the sport.

Intermediate Girls vs Scott’s All Saints (loss)

Intermediate Girls vs Kinross Wolaroi School (win)

The BMGS Intermediates put forward their best efforts, and we are proud to report that they won one game and lost one.

I would like to extend our congratulations to the players for their hard work and determination. Their dedication to the sport and commitment to improving their skills was evident on the field, and it showed in the results. Well done to the team for their excellent performance!

Junior Girls vs Scott’s All Saints (loss)

Junior Girls vs Kinross Wolaroi School (loss)

It's always tough when a team is missing several players. The youngest of the BMGS girls' Touch teams faced off against two strong opponents. Unfortunately, we lost both games, but I want to acknowledge the efforts and sportsmanship of the players who were on the field today.

Boys' Touch Football

1sts vs Oakhill College (loss)

In a neck-and-neck match, the BMGS went down in a 5-4 loss against a strong Oakhill side. Losing a player from last season left the team with only six players this week and no subs. Fortunately, two of the Junior boys were happy to step up to the opportunity and help the team out. The boys should be congratulated on their effort and continue to work hard at training and in their games in the upcoming weeks.

Juniors vs Oakhill College (win)

Despite missing some crucial members of the team, the junior boys BMGS side rose to the occasion in their first game back and won with a smashing score of 8-3!

Congratulations to the team and especially Joe, the Players' Player of the game, who also scored his first hattrick of the season.

Girls' Basketball

Junior A defeated Oxley College, 17-7

This was a strong game with huge improvements in both attack and defence. They really clicked as a team to drive home a fabulous win of 17-7. The last time they played this team they won by 1 point, demonstrating their great improvement, thanks to their commitment and awesome coach.

BMGS Intermediate Girls defeated Oxley College, 28-18

This was the girls' first game together after the National Basketball Championships on the Gold Coast in December and the long break, but the girls came out firing. They dominated the scoreboard the whole game and kept to their game play strategies they have been finessing with their coach Jack.

The win against Oxley today of 28-18 showed their excelled skill levels of the game.
