Co-Curricular Music
All Music Co-Curricular Ensembles commenced rehearsals this week and we are to keen to welcome new players into our ensembles. Details of rehearsals times are displayed on the school noticeboards, or talk to one of the Music staff for further details.
AHEP Queensland
Nominations are now open for students who wish to audition for the Australian Honours Ensemble Program (AHEP) 2023. The students you nominate must meet the criteria below and you will be asked (at a later date) to submit an audition.
Nomination Criteria:
- Strings, Percussion and Wind instruments: Must have reached AMEB grade 6 (or equivalent) or above
- Vocalists: Must be at a minimum AMEB grade 4 (or equivalent) and high-level choral experience
- Audition: All nominees must be able to submit an audition video. We will email the audition requirements and instructions to nominated students after the closing date
Tertiary Preparation Workshop
Tertiary Preparation Workshop registrations for 2023 are now open.
Get ahead of the audition process for Queensland Conservatorium this year. Participants will have the opportunity to learn more about requirements for tertiary entry, skills required for auditions and interviews, tools for enhancing executant skills, and theory and aural fundamentals. There will also be sessions on overcoming stage fright, warm-up methods, practicing effectively and introductions to tertiary courses - My Life as a Musician and Exploring Music.
Parents and caregivers will also be given the opportunity to join Queensland Conservatorium Heads of Area as they discuss the Bachelor of Music degree and the future of the working life of a musician.
TPW 2023 includes practical sessions in the following:
Classical: Winds, Strings, Brass, Percussion, Guitar, Piano
Jazz: Winds, Strings, Brass, Percussion, Guitar, Piano
Voice: Jazz, Classical and Popular

What’s on at Blue Mountains Theatre
LEAVING JACKSON: THE JOHNNY CASH & JUNE CARTER SHOW

GOOD MORNING VIETNAM
Music from the Vietnam War Era SATURDAY 4 MARCH | 3:00pm
Hosted by Glenn A Baker, this special 2.5hr fundraiser concert for the Blue Mountains Vietnam Veterans and Associated Forces Inc. vividly reimagines the songs of the 60's and 70's. Money from ticket sales will be used to provide welfare services to Australian veterans and war widows.
TRAVERSING THE VOID
A contemporary new Iceland/Australia Pocket opera SATURDAY 11 MARCH | 7:00pm
Eight contrasting movements take the listener on a journey, viewing the Blue Mountains through the eyes of a wild cockatoo. Exploring the dissonances between wild and urbanised spaces, bushfire and related contemporary existential dilemmas. Featuring the Blue Mountains Kanimbla Quartet and award-winning soprano Hallveig Rúnarsdóttir, twice voted Iceland’s best classical singer. With the Marais Project; Jenny Eriksson (viola de gamba), Tommie Andersson (lute) and Susie Bishop (voice and violin), and The Blue Mountains Suite - three short works written by Rebecca Daniel and performed by the Kanimbla Quartet.
