Senior School

Thank you to the many parents who took the opportunity over the weekend to speak with their children about both the uses and the dangers of mobile phones. While our teachers and pastoral team had a few challenging conversations with students about their phones, I am pleased to report that the vast majority of students have adapted well to our new approach. For those who have seen their children struggling with phone-related separation anxiety, I encourage you to persevere. It is often the case that the most worthwhile things in life require us to work at them, whether in learning, relating to the people around us or in the development of our habits.

As 2023 gets underway, I encourage parents to challenge their children to step outside their comfort zones. Over the past three years many of us have developed a heightened sensitivity to risk, and as a result the dimensions of our comfort zones have become somewhat smaller. As we leave those years behind, we must once again explore the boundaries of our comfort zones and challenge ourselves to try new things, make new friends and learn new skills. So, I have asked Tutors to speak with their Tutees about their co-curricular participation and to ensure that each and every student is engaged in something this semester. Similarly, I ask parents to nudge their children towards new experiences this year.
