Junior School

One of the joys of teaching Junior School students is the many “firsts” we get to be a part of.  Children in Pre-Kindergarten are experiencing what it’s like to be in school for the first time – trips to the Library, learning French and playing in the playground with the Junior School children are all brand new experiences. Kindergarten children have already begun their journey of learning to read, with lightbulb moments already happening! Some of our bigger kids who have joined us this year are learning instruments in Berimba Band and learning with agency – all firsts for so many of our students.

It was wonderful to join Chapel last week with children hearing all about Jesus and His love for them. Our Pre Kindergarten and Kindergarten students at Springwood were wide-eyed as Mr Webb shared with them and they thought singing along to new songs was a hit!  Gathering together to sing and hear the Good News are important times in our week and it’s a privilege to see children join in for the first time.

Our assembly format has changed at both Junior School campuses this year. We have deliberately placed assembly at the end of the day and parents have an open invitation to join us. We honour children for awards and showcase learning. Our Junior School children all share a well-being focus which is explored in assembly. This term we’re thinking about ‘What makes me a Grammar kid?’ and this week we are thinking about how Grammar kids are all unique. At Wentworth Falls we heard from Stage 3 Yarramundi about some of the weird and wonderful things that the children identified that are unique about them.

All classes will have a turn sharing on this theme, and I hope we see lots of parents at assembly. Class teachers will let you know when their class will be hosting assembly in the hope that you can come along.

Thank you to all the parents who came along to our Parent Information Evenings this week. We hope that the “nuts and bolts” information that our teachers shared with you is helpful. Please stay in touch with our teachers and our administration staff, Mrs Arrell and Mrs Boros, if there are any details you missed, or things you are unsure about.

Term 1 Week 2

For the BMGS Swish's second game of the season, the team had a good game against the fourth on the ladder. With lots of people absent on the team, Swish only had only one sub, an unusual sight on the typically stacked bench. While the team missed those who were away. The boys enjoyed the extra time they each got on the court. The usual tidy defence and good teamwork on offence made for another convincing win to keep them undefeated and on top of the table.

Mr Dillon Hunter

I was lucky enough to coach the BMGS Slam Dunks this week while Mrs Lord was away. The girls were quick to pick up split-line defence to help force their opposition to have to keep making long shots. They were then in a great position to get the rebounds. The girls made their opposition work hard for the ball and there were some great shots from some of the girls. As always, the girls showed great persistence and it is awesome to see the improvement they have made.

The two BMGS teams now have names - BMGS Raptors and BMGS Blue Whales. Our first game was against each other and with some really impressive defending and shooting, the game ended in a draw. Unfortunately the Blue Whales lost their second game but the Raptors won theirs 11-4.

I just wanted to say a special thanks to Henry Burrell (Year 12), for assisting with our Friday coaching session last week. He coached the BMGS Swish while Dillon was away.
