Learning and Teaching in 5/6I

Things are certainly in full swing here in 5/6I!  We have definitely started the year off with many fun adventures and learning experiences for us to immerse ourselves in.

This term in the 5/6 Level, our focus is on how we can incorporate the culture and differing perspectives of our Indigenous friends into our school and local communities.

We commenced our Inquiry unit with an excursion to the CERES Environmental Education Centre where we had the privilege of listening to our Aboriginal uncle ‘Tully’ and Aunty ‘Cathy’ share their Indigenous stories with us.

We were also lucky enough to be able to be involved in the very first day of the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program, where we all put our hands into making fresh gnocchi, tomato passata and basil pesto sauce.  What a day to indulge the senses and learn how to be safe in the kitchen!

Mums and Dads - next time you need dinner cooked you know who to ask!

Anabel -  "I enjoyed the Stephanie and Alexander program. I would love to do it again! It was amazing that we got fresh food from our school garden to make the pasta and sauce. It was a great experience."

Archer - "It was fun and a great way to cook with my friends and follow a set of instructions and eat with my friends the tasty meal we cooked together."

Makayla - "I thought that the Stephanie Alexander Program was really fun and it was good to be able to cook food by ourselves with a little bit of help from parents that wanted to help. After we made the pasta that we grew from our school garden we could eat the food and it was really good. I am really happy that Stephanie Alexander made this wonderful program so kids know how to cook great food on their own."

Celeste -  "I thought the Stephanie Alexander Program was very creative. I love the way we used freshly picked fruit and vegetables to make a healthy, sustainable and delicious meal. I enjoyed the project and  hope I get a chance to do it again in highschool."

Max - "I think the Stephanie Alexander Program is useful for young children because it teaches them to cook which is good for when you're older and you might need to cook for yourself or others. It is also really good because you are socialising and having fun and the best thing of all is being able to eat the food after. We also learnt to be a team!"

Lavinia - "I  think the Stephanie Alexander kitchen Program was very fun, I enjoyed making the pasta and sauce.
