Learning Support Program

LEARNING SUPPORT PROGRAMS

At Black Rock Primary School we endeavour to provide a program that enables individual students to reach their full potential.

All students participate in:

Differentiated Classroom Programs

Within the classrooms teachers work together to develop and implement programs that are tailored to student needs. Teachers use a range of assessment strategies to identify student strengths and where a student may require support.

Students at Black Rock Primary School may have the following:

Student Individual Education Plan

If students meet a set of criteria teacher will create an Individual Education Plan where goals are set. Teachers will share these learning plans during a time that is mutually agreed upon with the student’s classroom teacher and parents. A member of the Learning Support Team or the Leadership Team may attend this meeting if appropriate.

Students at Black Rock Primary School may be selected to participate in the Tutor Learning Initiative (TLI)

Learning Support through TLI

Selected students in Year 1-6 have access to learning support through the TLI.

What is the TLI?

  • The TLI comprises of small-group instruction led by a tutor. At BRPS we will continue to focus upon Reading.
  • The initiative is consistent with Australian and international evidence that demonstrates effective learning intervention can be achieved through tutoring or small group learning support.
  • This year we are lucky enough to have Nicole Large and Steph Burns take on the role of our tutors. Nicole and Steph will do a wonderful job of supporting students to determine and then reach their learning goals.

How are students selected?

  • We are currently undertaking benchmarking assessments across the school to determine and prioritise student needs. Decisions of student selection will be made in conjunction Nicole, Steph, the Leadership Team and Teaching Teams.

How do I know if my child has been selected to be a part of the TLI?

  • Nicole Large or Steph Burns will contact parents/carers of students selected to participate in the TLI. The duration of student participation in the TLI may vary from student to student.
  • Student selection will be finalised later in Term One.

What happens if my child is selected to be a part of the TLI?

  • TLI teachers work with students in a small group setting during school hours on a regular basis and will develop learning goals and a plan to support students to reach their goals. These will be shared with students' parents/carers throughout their involvement of the tutoring.
