Science

This week in Science:

Year 3/4 & 5/6 students have continued with the exploration of Motion and Force.

Last week they discussed how forces can change the motion, direction and shape of objects, and that for an object to change the forces acting on it need to be unbalanced. They discussed and investigated different forces such as push, pull, gravitational force, friction, air and water resistance, and learned about how we represent these in diagrams.

Kiko testing which ball will hit the floor first

This week year 5/6 tested whether a programable Bee-shaped-robot (Bee-bot) moves at a constant speed. They measured the distance the Bee-bot moved over successive intervals (every second). They used slow-motion video, timers and tape measures.

Year 3/4 students used force to reshape a ball of modelling clay for one minute, and were then challenged to represent on paper what they had done. The instructions were followed by a fellow student to see if the shape could be reproduced. There were some interesting results 😊
