JACKSON SOCIAL/AAC IN ACTION

As a part of the Jackson Social Skills Initiative this week your child learned about greeting others. This is important for developing social relationships and employability skills.

Greetings can be as simple as practicing saying, signing, or gesturing to say hello or goodbye, or more complex by adding in questions such as ‘How are you?’ and “What did you do on the weekend?”

Over the course of the week students have practiced greeting others using AAC (Alternative and Augmentative Communication) this included Key Word Sign, single message switches and inclusive greetings such as waves and hi-fives.

Encourage your child to practice greetings with someone you and your child see often e.g., friend, neighbour or relative.
