The Arts, Health and PE
Health
The Year 3 and 4 curriculum further develops students’ knowledge, understanding and skills in relation to their health, wellbeing, safety and participation in physical activity.
Students begin to explore personal and social factors that support and contribute to their identities and emotional responses in varying situations. They also develop a further understanding of how their bodies grow and change as they get older.
Throughout the year classes will explore knowledge, understanding and skills that support students to build and maintain respectful relationships, make health-enhancing and safe decisions, and interpret health messages from different sources to take action to enhance their own health and wellbeing.

Bike Education - Week 9
Yr 4 Torrens students are again participating in the Yr4-7 Way2Go Bike Ed Program. Sessions will run at our school site from Monday, 18 Sept through to Friday, 22 Sept. Each of the five 90 minute sessions are delivered by qualified instructors. Participation in this course will assist students:
- build their knowledge and understanding of the road laws and traffic environments
- develop bike handling and maintenance skills
- develop decision making skills for off and on-road bike riding.
Students are reminded to wear appropriate clothing and closed footwear and bring a rainproof jacket to ensure their safety and comfort. It is suggested students with puffers have pockets to enable them to carry their own medication as we ride around in small groups.
The RAA now conduct bike checks before the program begins. Bikes will be checked for roadworthiness on Friday 15 Sept. at LNPS. Consequently, we are asking your co-operation for as many bikes to come to school on Thursday 14 Sept. Students can then fill out the required bike check card and attach to the handlebars of their bike and safely leave it locked in the gym overnight. (The remainder of the bikes will need to be brought to the gym before school on that morning.) This will greatly assist the RAA patrol to check approximately 60 bikes early on Friday morning. Bikes will then need to go home Friday at the end of school and be ridden/brought to school each day during week 5. Bicycle SA have extra bikes for use by those students who do not own or have access to one during the sessions.
In addition to the Torrens Year 4s, a small group of Fisher students will also have the opportunity to participate in this program this year. More information will be distributed shortly, to all those students taking part in this free community program.
The Arts
The Arts covers the areas of music, dance, drama, visual and media arts.
The students will create and perform dances to communicate ideas. This will include exploring dances from other cultures. They will continue to work together to improvise dance sequences, practise skills and perform dances.
Students will collaborate to plan, make and perform dramatic actions. Students will also be engaged in a variety of design tasks.
In visual arts, the students will be researching artworks of different styles and artists from different times and cultures to inspire their own representations and experimenting with visual conventions to create particular visual effects.
Students will listen to music from a range of cultures and compose music to communicate a message.
