Term 1 

Alles über mich (All about me)

Wie geht's? (How are you?)

 

Students reconnect with prior learning and share simple sentences about themselves including introductions of name, age, class and stating their age. Learning vocabulary to express how they are feeling will not only contribute to developing conversations but also support our school value of care and concern. Focus on our value of respect will be supported as we encourage each other to have a go at using new language. 

 

Learning intentions

Students will: 

  • develop cultural awareness, making comparisons: between Australia and Germany as well as students' individual cultural backgrounds and experiences.
  • make connections to everyday literacy
  • see links between English and German, appreciating that some words can look the same or similar but sound different
  • participate in familiar and repetitive routines, games, role play and songs to use language in context
  • understand that German nouns begin with a capital letter
  • state their name, class, age and birthday month
  • introduce themselves and their peers
  • exchange greetings with one another identifying different times of the day
  • identify, match and recall new vocabulary
  • express different feelings in simple sentences

Term 2

Mein Klassenzimmer 

(My classroom)

Bären, Bären, Bären 

(Bears, Bears, Bears)

Students will be introduced to vocabulary relating to our classroom environment to name, compare and describe objects and follow simple routines and instructions.   A look at a describing My Teddy Bear, the classic storybook of Goldilocks and the Three Bears will then lead into a cultural connection with a focus on the Berlin Buddy Bears.

 

Learning intentions

Students will: 

  • identify and recall vocabulary
  • match words and pictures
  • recognise that there are 3 words for 'the' in German
  • remember that all nouns begin with a capital letter in German
  • name and describe classroom objects in simple sentences
  • participate in familiar and repetitive routines, games, role play and songs to use language in context
  • engage in short conversations using a rehearsed question and response  format 
  • be able to introduce characters
  • sequence and retell simple story
  • write short sentences using a familiar structure
  •  describe using adjectives
  • learn about Berlin, the capital city of German
