Melba

It has been another busy and exciting start to the 2023 school year for Melba students, staff, and parents. We have welcomed 75 Year 7s and a number of new students at other year levels. We have also welcomed three new staff members to the Melba House team.

Mr Cameron James  (English Teacher & M8 Mentor)
Ms Alyssa Giangiulio  (English Teacher & M9 Mentor)
Ms Adrienne Gammune (Music Teacher)

It has been fantastic to see our Melba students involved in a range of activities to kick the 2023 year off including House Swimming, House Performing Arts, and within the Mentor Program.

On behalf of the Melba House staff, we are looking forward to working alongside and supporting your student in 2023. We wish all students and families the very best for the year ahead.

House Performing Arts

Congratulations to all students who were involved in the House Performing Arts Festival. A wide range of students have been working very hard since last year to plan and prepare their performance of 'Hercules'. Melba House was awarded first place by the judges on the night, which is a fantastic credit to all students involved and recognition for their commitment, teamwork and enthusiasm. A big thank you to all of the staff who have tirelessly helped supervise this student-run production.

Congratulations to the participants listed on the program and especially the leaders: Jade M, Isabelle J, and Jacqui R.

A big congratulations to the Tech Crew, Musicians, and those involved in making props who all make it possible for the performance to occur!

House Swimming Carnival

The annual House Swimming Carnival was held on Friday 10 February and it was amazing to see so many students, not only dressed up in blue, but also having a go at the variety of competitive and novelty events. The friendly and supportive atmosphere of Melba students was wonderful to see.   One of the major highlights for all students was of course watching the Biggest Splash Competition. Overall Melba placed 4th on the overall standings, well done to all Melba students that participated in events on the day.

Special mention to the following students who were awarded age level champions

Chloe L (U/13)

Hamish D  (U/15)

Melba House Student Leadership Team

We are pleased to announce that the following students will form the Melba House Student Leadership Team for 2023.

Led by House Captain Jade M, these students will represent their peers to improve the students' experience within Melba House and at Blackburn High School.

Jade has already commenced her work to improve the connectedness of students within mentor group, participation in house activities and events and will continue to enhance the Melba House fundraiser during term 3.
