Blackburn’s Robotics Team Makes it to National Finals

Our Robotics Club started this time last year with a tight deadline but we managed to win a trophy for being the best new team at the competition that Blackburn High hosted at our school over the winter holidays last year.

This year, the team have been working hard to prepare for the FIRST Robotics National completion in Wollongong NSW. The competition occurred over the Labour Day long weekend.

During the weekend not only did they make the school proud of how they carried themselves throughout the weekend, but the team also made it to the Grand Final.

The competition format is three robots against three robots which are called alliances. To get to the finals our robot was chosen out of 20 other robots to join the alliance with the third-best-ranked team after the qualifiers.

A couple of very intense Semi-Final games to then go on and make it to the Grand Final.

While we didn’t win the final, the fact that we made it to the finals as a brand new team and had built a robot that worked reliably. This has made us very proud, and we still walked away with a trophy to recognise being a finalist.

We recognised the efforts and achievements of all staff and students who were involved during our whole school assembly last week. We can’t wait for everything we have planned for the next competition planned to be hosted at Blackburn High School again this winter break.
