Principal's Report

Term 1

Welcome back to all members of the school community as we commence another school year. The past week has seen our students regrouping with old friends, forming new relationships, and displaying excellent learning behaviours. Students have been adhering to the school motto and striving ‘to be the best that they can be’.

I can assure parents/carers that the Concord School staff will continue to do everything possible to ensure your child is working in a safe and supportive environment that values and celebrates student learning. I look forward to a very rewarding and successful year for our parents, staff and most importantly our students. Please contact me at any time if you wish to discuss any matter concerning your child’s education.

Pick Up and Drop Off at the Bundoora Campus

The building works have re-commenced at the Bundoora Campus and this has exacerbated the issues with car parking. I advise against driving into the back car park. There are rarely any car parks available and if there isn’t you need to reverse back out of the car park. This is often not possible and is extremely unsafe.

We strongly recommend that parents and carers, whose children are not on the school bus, take advantage of the drop off and pick up options that are available.

To drop off before school, drive into the front driveway between 8.30-8.40am. Staff will meet your child and supervise them until playtime supervision commences at 8.45am.

To pick up after school, drive into the front driveway between 3.10-3.20pm. Staff will escort your child to your car when it progresses to the front gate.

Communication

Please ensure when you email your child’s teacher that you include the section leaders (press ‘Add Recipients’) so your email will be responded to if the teacher is absent. As a reminder, the section leaders are

Lower Primary – Kath Moore

Upper Primary – Rachel Morgan and Kirsten Telford

Secondary 7/8 – Jessica Fitzsimons and Isobel Baynes

Secondary 9/10 – Chris Malane and Cath Sloley

Secondary 11/12 – Megan Prenc and Jane Stacey

Back Gate at the Bundoora Campus

To support the safety of our students, the back gate at the Bundoora Campus is now locked each day from 9.10am-2.45pm. All visitors will be required to enter the school from the front between these times.

Parent Use of the School Café

Parents are very welcome to make purchases from the school café between 8.30-10.am on each day of the school week except Wednesday. There are both indoor and outdoor seating options available if you choose to ‘dine in’. The Secondary 11/12 students in the café make excellent coffee and snacks for our community to enjoy.

Smile Squad Six Month Fluoride Varnish Visit

The Banyule Community Health Smile Squad team are heading back to our school to complete six-monthly fluoride varnish applications for those students who have provided consent. Fluoride varnish applications help make sure students have the best chance of preventing tooth decay.

Consent for this fluoride varnish application was provided when students’ initial consent forms were returned. However, if anyone has changed their mind and do not wish to receive a fluoride varnish application, they can contact Banyule Community Health directly to let them know. Please contact the Smile Squad team via: smilesquadenquiries@bchs.org.au

Principal Award - Yana Sindhwani

Yana has had a great start to 2023. She is displaying the Concord School expectation of Be Responsible by taking care of her belongings such as her lunchbox and drink bottle by putting them in her tub at the start of each the day. Yana is also asking for help with her work and other tasks when needed.
