Principal's Message

Liam Buckley

We acknowledge that Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Melbourne are situated on the lands of the five language groups that make up the Kulin Nations, who have walked upon and cared for this land for thousands of years. We acknowledge their continued deep spiritual connection and relationship to Country.

We pay respects to their Elders past, present and future, and commit to the ongoing journey of reconciliation.

'So it is written that the Christ would suffer and on the third day rise from the dead'

Luke 24:46

Yesterday our school community gathered for Ash Wednesday Mass and the First Day of Lent. While many take this opportunity to think about giving up chocolate (again!) our students are learning about the traditions and rituals of this Lenten period. Lent is also a great opportunity to not just give something up but perhaps to add something positive into our lives. Thank you to those parents and friends who are able to join us for Mass.

Thank you parents for the gift of your children! We are so grateful and impressed with the way the children conduct themselves and respect themselves and others. We do have Excellence as one of our school values and we strive for excellence in all areas. We are positively encouraging great manners and respect at St Joseph's and we receive great feedback when we have visitors to school.

Welcome to Jay and welcome also to Julia and Mark (Jay's parents) to our lovely school community. Jay joins us in Year 2 and has settled in beautifully.

Multisensory Structured Language (MSL)

Foundation have begun their MSL journey, starting by learning the short vowel sounds. These 5 sounds are the base of our learning with actions that accompany the sound pack.

Please share in our phonics vowel craft!

HOLT!

We are so proud of the children who won the Percentage Championship and also came second overall out of nine schools at the HOLT District Swimming Carnival.

Thank to to the parents who drove to swimming training on those early mornings and for your wonderful support on Tuesday. These kids were and are amazing!

We have a a couple of winners who will progress to the next level of competition and represent not only St Joseph's but also the whole HOLT District.

P&F

We hope you enjoyed the wondeful Pancake Box on Tuesday. Thank you so much once again to our dedicated team of volunteer parents.

Thank you to Trish, Kate, Sarah and Kelly for always giving their energy and time for all our children. Also thanks to Alana, Sacha and Ava who helped put the strawberries in the boxes and distribute them.

PSGs

Parent Support Groups are scheduled for the next couple of Tuesdays. You should have received an invitation from Cathy or Melinda if you are due to meet.

Tennis Courts

Thank you so much to the Billings family and  the Weatherhead family for the time and effort it took for you to tidy up and garden around the tennis courts. We are changing the locks on the exterior gates of the courts and tennis rooms in the next few days. St Joseph's families who would like to use the courts in the afternoons or weekends will be able to borrow the keys. More to come once we have the new locks in place.
