The Leader In Me

Our students have been working extremely hard towards achieving and working on their WIGs. They are understanding the importance of tracking their goals and actions. Tracking our goals allows us to reflect at the end of the term on our achievements and where we may need to improve for next time.

Our habit focuses for the last few weeks have been Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind and Habit 3: Put First Things First. Our students understand the importance of knowing what result we are aiming for, what we are setting out to do and how do I get there. In each lesson, we set our Learning Intention and Success Criteria. These are our ‘End in Mind’ for each lesson, therefore, allowing each student to be clear on the aim of the lesson and their learning, enabling them to achieve success.

We have enhanced our Leader In Me award process to tie in with our habit focus for the fortnight. It has been a pleasure to walk around to each class to see who has been applying the habit and demonstrating leadership. The selected leader receives a note in their diary and an acknowledgement at the following assembly. If your child has been selected as the leader in their class, ask them about their achievement and what leaderships traits they have been demonstrating.

Our Year 5 leaders were lucky enough to attend the Melbourne Lead and Dream Conference at the end of last month. We were fortunate to hear from several leaders in various areas – from creating their own businesses, helping others in their community or simply creating acts of kindness. Each of these leaders had one thing in common - they were all young people and began demonstrating their leadership at a young age. Our leaders were engrossed in their stories and what can be accomplished at any age. We all walked away with a sense of motivation, inspiration and passion to lead and achieve.
