Monday 7 March was the first day of Great Lent.  This day is called 'Clean Monday'(Καθαρά Δευτέρα). 'Clean Monday' is celebrated 40 days before the Holy Week starts, and it marks the beginning of the Great Lent period for Orthodox believers and the end of the Greek Carnival.  This name has been chosen because people should begin the holy season with clean hearts and good intentions. The celebrations of 'Clean Monday' includes activities such as; kite-flying.  Junior School students during their Greek classes had the opportunity to learn about this tradition and colour in their own kite. Year 6 students created their own kites and decorated them with Greek words related to Easter.

In the spirit of almsgiving during the Lenten Season, and inspired by their Orthodox Studies classes, Year 7 students have come together to organise our annual Greek Welfare Centre Easter Appeal.  Students are asking for donations of non-perishable foods to support those in need in our community.  Well done to the students who are part of this worthwhile fundraiser.  Please send any donations with your child to their Home Group by Monday 4 April 2022.
