Sport Captains

CROSS COUNTRY CAPTAINS: Poppi Wilson and Ella Shackel

Cross country has started up again this term. We have been getting such great turnouts at runclub and all the girls have been smashing out the sessions. However, we would love to see more girls come along for some fitness and fun, we train from 6:45-8am on Monday and Wednesday mornings. Make sure to bring a water bottle and a towel.

Over the holidays and continuing into term one we have been going to the Kedron park runs every Saturday morning. This is a great 3rd training session for the week and we encourage as many girls as possible to join us.

VOLLEYBALL CAPTAINS: Grace Riley, Maggie Roche and Abby Dawson

Last week we finally hit off the season with our first round of volleyball matches; It was amazing to see all the players so eager and excited to get back on the courts and play some volleyball!

This year we have introduced social beach volleyball, which has had an amazing turnout. Although the sandy courts were damp, our girls got into the fun and played enthusiastically with one another, along with the help of the awesome staff that came along to supervise – and may have gotten a few hits in themselves!

Our other players returned to traditional courts – and with great success won against some of our competitors. Although the hard floors may not have been as comfortable as the sand, that didn’t stop them! All of our players worked extremely well together with teamwork and great spirit! We as volleyball captains are so proud to see the enthusiasm and commitment coming into this season and can’t wait to see the amazing results that come from it!

AFL CAPTAIN: Stella Martin

Although this sporting season has been off to a bit of a slow start with a few weeks of rain - it hasn’t changed the excitement of both AFL Teams for the start of the season.

With a large amount of sign ups this year we where able to have two 16 a-side teams with a huge mix of grade 10-12 students. We are all anticipating the start to the season even if its a little delayed and are eagerly waiting for some days of sun in the coming weeks.

There have been a few weeks of training already and the effort students have been putting in is inspiring. A massive shoutout to everyone participating in sport this term, and there will be updates in the coming week regarding our results throughout this season!

Equestrian - Ella Shackel

My name is Ella Shackel and I am the captain of the equestrian team for 2022. Our team has started off strong this season. The first interschool event of the year was last weekend at fig tree pocket for Stuartholme's Showjumping and dressage. Matilda had a great event on her horse Piper in the 70cm. While I jumped in the meter and managed to get all my state qualifiers. Unfortunately, Maeve couldn't be at this event but she has many events booked in the next few weeks. I wish the girls the best of luck for the rest of the season.

with thanks.

Swimming Captains: Johannah Sehl, Tanna-Lai Hornung and Sienna Nucifora

The swimming season is off to a great start with the CaSSSA swim trials finally completed! The girls showed great determination throughout training sessions at Mt A and Padua which has resulted in the improvement of their times. It has been so exciting to see so many girls at these meets, especially in the younger grades.

As the swim captains, we have high hopes for this year at CaSSSA, we hope to maintain our position on the leader board and increase the levels of excitement, motivation and participation at training sessions in the lead-up. CaSSSA less than 2 weeks away so keep training girls we are almost there!  For those still interested in swimming but don’t want to compete or be on the team, remember that swim fit is on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7am to 8am for anyone who wants to get in and be active.

Some swimmers also participated in the Met North trials last week doing exceptionally well, with heaps of PB’s being smashed. Great work girls and a huge congratulations to all of you who were there!    We would like to thank all the teachers who accompany us for these meets, without their work behind the scenes these events wouldn’t be possible.

Congratulations to all the girls who made the swim team, we are excited and hopeful for a successful CaSSSA!  Thank you for a great start to the season and well-done girls!
