Sport Development Leader

Josh White

Sport is back and we are getting used to our new “Normal” which means keeping at least 7 contingency plans up our sleeve.   We have managed to get our CaSSSA Tennis teams out in the weekends and the results have been amazing. It as been pleasing to watch the tennis program growing each year at the college and out partnership with Tennis Gear Shaw park develop further each season. I am sure the positive role modelling of Ash Barty has inspired many to have a go, we are so lucky to have such a role model in sport.

We have had a huge response to our social sport offering this term, we have over 100 students in our beach volleyball activity at Shaw Park.  What is more amazing is that we have almost the same number involved in the CaSSSA Volleyball teams at the same time. Volleyball is certainly giving Netball a run for the most popular sport in 2022 at the college.

Our swimmers have been enjoying working towards next weeks CaSSSA Swim Carnival.  We have managed to attend two lead up meets with a third arranged for this Friday further refining our fitness.  Well done to the 70 Swimmers selected for your continued dedication to the program through COVID-19 and more.  We know the whole school is behind you next week.

A record amount of students has also attended the Dance come and try sessions, after last years performances I cannot wait to see what they achieve this year.

While it seems we are just starting Term 2, our second term of sport trials is beginning, thank you to all who have nominated to trial, we hope that term 2 sport is one of our best yet.  We are continuing with our offering of social sport opportunities with Self Defence classes throughout term 2.  Planning for term 3 is also underway to make sure we have something each term outside of the CaSSSA Competitive sports.

We are praying that the sun stays out for a few weeks, last weekends flood event has devastated many sporting facilities  The clean up and repair of these will have a lasting effect on both club and school sport.  We hope our partner clubs can get up and running as soon as possible and begin to deliver sport and rec to the thousands each week enjoy them.  The University of QLD is a facility we use year round with sport and it has been sad to see them go under again.  We will continue to keep contingency plan #8 up our sleeves to keep you all moving though.

Stay positive, as my Physical Education Unit in the Navy preached “Mens sana in corpore sano” meaning "a healthy mind in a healthy body".

Interhouse Swimming Carnival – Friday 01 April (All Day) – Valley Pool

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions earlier in the term our Interhouse event has been postponed to the Friday April 1.  The carnival will run differently this year as we shift to a more inclusive program of swimming and novelty house events.  We have two trophies up for grabs for Interhouse Swimming.

  • The Inter House shield is a tightly fought battle of points based on results on the Interhouse Swim Carnival.  The higher you place in your events the better the points for your house.
  • The Jennifer Letizia Participation and Commitment cup is awarded to the house with the highest participation numbers over the carnival.

Both of these trophies will be awarded following the swimming carnival.
