Year 10 STEM

During Term 1, the Year 10 STEM students have been hard at work each Wednesday afternoon learning about rockets. From small paper rocket models and paper planes at the start of term, they have progressed to building large bottle rockets. The bottle rockets have formed the basis of our major investigation in STEM this term, "How does the amount of water in a bottle rocket affect the height it will reach?". The STEM students have spent the past two weeks launching their rockets on the school oval and using trigonometry to collect valuable data to help them answer this key question.

The Year 10 Physical Fitness and Recreation electives have been out and about recently, making use of a variety of community facilities. This has included a run around Karkarook park, an intense fartlek running session down at Mentone Beach, as well as several recreationally focused trips.

On Tuesday 22nd March, the group visited Star Fitness located in Arco Lane in Heatherton. They were instructed through a gruelling 45 minute spin class using the Keiser bikes.

The instructor was so impressed that he commented that this was the best spin class he had taken with a Cheltenham Secondary College group, with the majority of students matching his work rate from start to finish, which was a fantastic achievement.

In May, the two groups are planning to participate in the MS Fun Run around Albert Park Lake.

Great work, Year 10s!
