School Council News

From the Co-Vice President | School Council member profiles - Tobias and Etty

I hope that many of you were able to tune in to see the presentation of the Annual Report last month.  It was live-streamed with both the Principal and School Council President presenting on the progress of the school across the previous year.  (Yes, as well as issuing “school reports”, schools also have a report written about their performance).  And in case you didn’t get a chance to see it, Chelt.Sec is making great progress in many areas, building on the strong foundations and hard work of the school staff and leadership team.

After the report was presented, the school council underwent its annual shutting down of the old council and starting up of the new council. We said goodbye to a couple of long serving members (Debbie Feben & Arabella Daniel) and welcomed some fresh faces (Bridget Geers now an elected parent member).  We were unanimous as a council to re-elect Andrew Hall as the President.  Andrew brings a very calm and considered aspect to the council which helps to focus minds on the important issues facing us.  Thank you, Andrew, for putting your hand up for another year at the helm.

Andrew touched on the key areas of focus for the upcoming year in the last edition of the Cheltonian and we have started to make some inroads.  We hope to be reaching out to the students and parent community on these various topics in due course to make sure we have a broad set of views and perspectives before any decisions are made.  As council members, whilst we may be parents ourselves, and hold strong views, we need to look at the college as a whole and not just the areas which may be directly linked to our children.  We ask that you keep an eye out for any parent surveys that may be coming through – they generally aren’t too time consuming, and we really welcome everyone’s input so that we can get a balanced view across all corners of the school community.

An essential part of our council is the student representatives. These student reps volunteer their time outside school hours to attend and put across the views of the students themselves.  As part of the school council’s priorities (and the school itself) listening to the student voice is extremely important.  We will be trying to dig deeper into areas that matter to students, and hence building a strong working relationship with our new student reps is top of our to-do list.  We thank these dedicated individuals for sticking their hands up and volunteering.

School Council Co-Vice President
