Access Monash Mentoring Program

The Access Monash Mentoring program provides intensive support for selected Year 11 and 12 students who aspire to university study. The program aims to support students’ decision-making and preparation for university and careers, by matching them with high-achieving Monash students to work in a one-to-one mentoring partnership.

The program launch was held in the Martin Culkin Theatre on 28th March. Students met their mentor and had the opportunity to learn about their school and study journey and also about how to survive and thrive at University.

Each Monash Mentee is provided the following opportunities:

  • 10 face-to-face sessions at school or online
  • Exclusive access to Monash University outreach and leadership activities
  • Academic/study assistance and support
  • Industry connection opportunities
  • Shadowing experiences.

Other activities may include events such as career expos, university Open Days, Monash student shadowing or information seminars.

Congratulations to every student who has signed up to participate in this outstanding program. You have shown that you are self-motivated and an independent learner, which are both excellent qualities which will contribute to your success in your future study and career journey.

ABCN GOALS Program for Year 9 Students

ABCN GOALS is a professional mentor program provided to the school by the Australian Business Community Network (ABCN). The program ran over 5 sessions, once a week during March and April and was fully digital. Twenty Year 9 students had been selected to participate and each student was paired with a professional mentor from Minter Ellison, which is one of Australia’s largest law firms. The mentors helped each student to build confidence, set goals for school and beyond and help develop personal strengths.

Below is a short story by Asma who attended the GOALS program this year.

The ABCN Program is a fun and interesting program that helps you think about your future. We had to make a commitment of coming to school at 8.30am because that's when the program started. Coming to school at 8.30am in the morning really helped to switch your brain on and it's thinking. We learned about setting goals and the steps to take to achieve your goal. The ABCN Program helped us identify our strengths and how your strengths can be useful in the future. The session I enjoyed the most was the last session where we did job interviews and it just got all of us thinking about how your interview can go when applying for a job in the future. The ABCN Program is a great program. Thank you to Minter Ellison and the teachers at Dandenong High School for organising this program for students.
