Tracey Gunson Netball

Both our Junior and Senior Netball teams played a highly competitive season of Tracey Gunson Netball this year. Both teams trained extensively and played in the Mater Dei spirit. We thank our wonderful umpires for the season, Hannah Hurst, Molly King and Rosemary Clarke. We also thank all the supporters that came down to the Equex centre throughout the season.
JUNIOR TEAM
The Junior Team had two wins and one loss in their pool games. In round 1 the girls defeated the Christian College convincingly. They encountered TRAC in round 2 and went down in a close game. The Juniors had another convincing win in round 3 defeating Mount Austin High comprehensively.
In the semi-final against Kildare, the teams were separated by as little as one goal at some points during the game. Unfortunately our girls were unable to maintain the finesse shown in the second and third quarters in the closing term and Kildare left the court victorious. The girls played off for third and fourth against Kooringal High on Tuesday. After a tight first quarter where the scores were level at 4-4, the Junior girls settled and played 3 clinical quarters to finish 31-13.
Overall the girls displayed excellent teamwork skills, they listened to the coaches’ feedback as well as each other’s and they worked diligently towards their goals, making them fine representatives of our College.

SENIOR TEAM
The Senior Team had a clean sweep of their pool in the initial round games. They won every game convincingly. Round 1 they defeated Mount Austin 90-4. Round 2 they defeated TRAC 43-24. Round 3 they defeated Wagga Christian College 65-9. The first final saw the girls beat Kildare in a strong and competitive match 32-25.
The Grand Final was against Wagga Wagga High School. Wagga High had won the previous 4 years. The girls were determined and played exceptionally well to take out the Tracey Gunson Shield for 2014. The game was a definite nail biter and the girls fought tirelessly until the very end to win narrowly 29-28. What an awesome feeling!
Congratulations to Captain Ali Miller and Vice Captain Ella Finemore. At all times the girls kept calm and continually motivated the team to achieve their best.
