Junior School News and Visual Arts
WELCOME TO VISUAL ARTS 2022
JUNIOR SCHOOL UPDATE
What a sensational start to the year the junior students have had! As a specialist teacher, I have the privilege of teaching all the grades and I have noticed that the students are actively displaying the star values.
It was very exciting to welcome parents back on site and there were many students who were very eager to take parents and carers on tours of their classrooms.
Thank you to all of the parents who came in and helped to cook up the delicious pancakes on Tuesday. The school was filled with a lovely aroma and the students (and teachers) really enjoyed this delicious treat.
Thank you to Amanda and the classroom teachers for organising a beautiful liturgy marking the beginning of Lent.
Thank you to our junior team for a wonderful start to the term.
ART SHOW UPDATE
The Junior students have not participated in an art show before and there is definitely a lot of excitement in the art room as we began our first art show project this week. Here is an overview of what each level is working on...
PREPS
Elmer Elephants
Students are experimenting with a range of art making techniques and materials to create their own patchwork elephant. To create the jungle background we are using oil pastel and a dye wash. This art technique also incorporates science as we learn that oil and water do not mix. The Preps will be making collaged elephants in their own unique style to express themselves using colour and shape.
YEAR ONE AND TWO
Animals inspired by Bark Ladies at the NGV
Students have been very busy experimenting with a variety of parallel lines and have used one style to create their background for their animals. Students have been encouraged to think about the type of line they are using and how it relates to their animal. We have not decided yet how we will create their animals, however the students have offered me a number of wonderful ideas.
YEAR THREE FOUR
Mermaids/ Merman inspired by Bark Ladies at the NGV
Students have studied a variety of sea creatures and created their own mermaid/ merman by using features of an underwater creature and mixing them with a human figure. The designs are imaginative and very detailed. We have been listening and learning about an Indigenous story about a mermaid and gaining inspiration from this story for our designs. These designs will be painted onto the leftover pieces of wood from the cubby house. Students are very excited to paint on wood! We were inspired by the use of bark at the NGV and have decided to upcycle the leftover wood as it creates a similar effect.
YEAR FIVE SIX
Students have also created mermaid/ merman designs and will be turning their 2D designs into 3D creations next week. We will be recycling material from my husband's blind company and sewing toys. Students are very eager to start sewing!
their designs will be painted onto their toys.
We have been so busy and having so much fun I have forgotten to take many photos but here are a couple of students mainly in the design phase of these projects.
