School Captain News

Noah:

Hola! Noah here with this week's issue of captain’s news. We’re in week six now and things are really kicking in. This week has definitely been the best one yet for year 6. On Wednesday our class took a bus trip into the city to see Parliament House and Captain Cook’s cottage, it was very exciting! I was lucky enough to get some footage of the cottage so hopefully, I’ll be able to share that with all of you next week. Year 5 also tagged along with us although we didn’t exactly cross paths with each other considering we were in CCC when they were in Parliament and the other way around. Overall I’m pretty sure I saw zero frowny faces, that’s right, a doughnut, none! After we finished at CCC we walked back to Parliament House and began our tour. As the year 5s finished up we were led into the lower house discussion room for a role play. Most of us were given a role to play, some of which happened to be very important. I was given the role of the speaker, pretty cool huh? I even got to shout “order!” and wore a cool cloak. The person giving us a tour even gave me permission to kick the teachers out if I wanted to. I have to say I was tempted but I resisted. Once we finished the role play we moved to the upper house discussion room where everything was red velvet and covered in gold. The guy who gave us the tour even said it’s one of the most expensive rooms in the world!! Once we got back to school there happened to be a Federal Member standing right outside the church, coincidence I think not! Even though this issue is being published on a Thursday I’m still going to say congrats to all of this week's STAR award winners. There's not much else to add now so I hope you enjoyed this week's recap! I’ll write next week so for now, it’s adios amigos!

Gaby:

Ciao! Mi chiamo Gaby back with your weekly issue of captain’s news. We’re now up to week 5 I’m pretty sure, and we’ve had a fairly eventful week. Yesterday (Wednesday) the year 5s and 6s had the privilege to go on an excursion to the Victorian Parliament House and go exploring in the Fitzroy Gardens to Captain Cook’s cottage! Everyone who went had a really fun day. I think Captain Cook’s cottage was a lot smaller than most people had expected and didn’t have quite as much technology either, such as the toilet, which everyone had a good look for but only managed to find some ‘chamber pots’. Moving on to the Parliament House, well that was simply amazing. There’s no other way to put it I’m afraid, as it was pretty much everyone’s highlight of the week. We held a role play in the lower house, where almost everyone got a speaking part and a role to play as we discussed the matter of plastic straws. I myself was chosen as the ‘clerk’ which was very important as I got to wear a cool black cloak and help the speaker whenever he needed it. We then went on a tour through the upper house, which was incredibly grand and just absolutely beautiful. To be honest, I don’t know how people can work there because if I were them I’d be gazing up at the roof and all the architectural work constantly. That building, the Victorian Parliament building, is apparently one of the most expensive buildings in the world as there is just sooooo much gold from the gold rush all those years ago! I have to say, it was very information-rich, too! Get it? It was a day that everyone enjoyed very much. And, you’re not going to believe this but, when we got off the bus at the end of the day, we saw Katie Allen who just so happens to be the Federal Member of Parliament for this area, unplanned!! What a coincidence. To sum up the day, it was very informative and an experience that I’ll never forget. The parliament house is really quite beautiful, and Captain Cook’s Cottage is a memory I will always cherish. Well, there’s not really much else that happened in the week compared to Wednesday, and I won’t bore you to death with all of our lessons so that’s pretty much it.

Congratulations to all of our STAR award winners, Italiano award winners and PE award winners and until next week, arrivederci!!
