Primary students have been exploring different mechanisms, building a mechanical claw operated by a lever. Students tested the claw, evaluated its operation and made improvements. Jensen from 6D extended the initial project by making a wearable claw.
Year Six students are currently using the Lego EV3 kits to build robotic arms. This has been a collaborative task, with students working in pairs to build a number of stand alone modules. Once the modules are completed, larger groups will work to assemble them into the robotic arm. Students have worked productively, efficiently and cooperatively in their teams, just like a formula one pit crew!
Year Five students are now beginning to explore animation, creating a version of a "Zoetrope". A series of pictures are presented one after the other to create the illusion of movement. Examples featured here were created by Ifoni, Fleur, Michaela and Mahika, all from 5E. Next week, students will revisit these concepts with digital technology, learning to animate sprites for their own games and movies to be created in Scratch.
