The Marrung dancers have commenced! The troupe is divided into two sections for classes but still perform together in public performances. Each group has one class per week. The groups are divided by year level. Year 7 comprises one group (they will join with the girls from Mooroopna Park Primary School) and the other group consists of Year 8, 9, and 10 girls.
They had their first public performance last week at the McGuire Harmony nay assembly. The Marrung students were well received by the McGuire students. The girls enjoyed watching dance performances from Afghanistan, The Congo and Malaysia as well as songs sung by students from different nations. It was inspiring to see eleven students, all dressed in different national costumes singing We Are One. This week we commence our Kindergarten program for
the year. Three senior Marrung students, Frances Atkinson, Mollie Olphert and Nhykira Mansfield went to Tatura this week. They, along with other senior students, will lead the Year Seven girls in this program.
Sports News
Swimming – our team competed in the GMDSSV zone finals. We had lots of personal best times but unfortunately, our students didn’t qualify for the zone. We are proud of them as they did their best.
Senior and Intermediate Summer Round Robin – This competition was held two weeks ago. As is usual we won the ten pin bowling. Our tennis, cricket and lawn bowls were competitive and again did the school proud with their behaviour and efforts.
Dance – The Australian Ballet Out There program was in Shepparton last week. Ten of our students, only one of whom studies dance, put on a stunning performance after only ten hours of
practice. I would like to thank the Australian Ballet for giving our students the opportunity to learn with such elite athletes as Felicity and Alex (our two teachers). Congratulations to Tarsha Brown, Jess Eldred, Liam Hall, Dwayne Mansfield, Frances Atkinson, Nhykira Mansfield, Sereima Vakasisikakala, Jasmine Wilson, Tarnesha Jenkins and Katie Mitchell. A copy of their performance is available for the students to down load. To obtain a copy see Mr. Oliver.
