Term 1 Inquiry in Year 6

Australia as a Nation

Last term we learnt lots about how Australia came to be what it is today. First we learnt about what Federation was and how everyone voted on whether or not people wanted the 6 colonies to become one. We also learned about what the constitution was and how if anybody had a problem with their case that it would be taken to the High Court of Australia. If they won their case,  the constitution could be changed,  however over the 118 years we have used the constitution it has only been changed 9 times.

Migration Story

As part of our Inquiry Unit, we were required to complete a research assignment on someone who had migrated to Australia from another country. A lot of us researched family members who migrated because of either war or tough living conditions.  Once we had completed our research we wrote a historical narrative explaining their story. We all loved loved learning about how everyone migrated differently and the struggles they faced. Here are some photos of students with the poster they made to show when they presented their narratives.

Canberra Camp

I loved camp because of all of the activities and the people at the hotel. I especially loved Telstra Tower and Parliament House. The hotel that we stayed at had great food as well.

I enjoyed Telstra Tower because the view was amazing and I enjoyed that we went at night.

I also enjoyed the War Memorial because it was really interesting and our tour guide told us about stories that happened to people who went to WW1 and WW2.

Camp was so enjoyable as every minute we were doing something either educational or fun. It was particularly fun to run around at Questacon and do all the activities with my friends. My favourite thing I did on camp was going to Telstra Tower and seeing the amazing view at night.

I really liked camp because of all of the activities that we did, especially Parliament House because it was huge! I also enjoyed the food at camp, it was delicious.

In case you didn't know, Questacon is an incredible science centre. There was so much to do, we went on a drop slide that looked fairly small, however once you were at the top, it felt really high up! There was loads of information (particularly on A.I.) and you could even play table hockey against a robot. Going to Questacon is truly an experience I'll never forget.

Camp was amazing fun and all of the activities were so engaging. My highlight had to be when we went to the swimming centre. Torpedoing down the slide and making a human whirlpool meant we all had the best time ever!
