Principal's Report

Dear Parents, Families and Community members,
This week our year 7-9 students and staff visited Lady Northcote Camp near Bacchus Marsh. I had the pleasure of heading up Thursday afternoon and staying the night with this very fun and funny crew! Photos and more details will be included in next week's newsletter.
Thanks Alison, Louise, Alarna, Richard and Mel for making this experience possible! Sleep well on the weekend!
Last Day of Term 2 - Casual Dress Day
The Student Representative Council have organised a casual dress day for the last day of Term 2, Friday 28 June.
This day will raise funds for Cystic Fibrosis Geelong, an organisation that assists families by supplying physiotherapy equipment for the children and adults in Geelong who are living with Cystic Fibrosis.
We encourage all students to dress in casual clothes and bring along a gold coin donation to support this cause.
Deakin University Intern
Welcome to our Deakin University Master of Teaching Intern.
As part of this school’s ongoing commitment to the induction and development of new teachers, we are pleased to welcome Paris Lewis to the school. Paris is completing her Master of Teaching at Deakin University and has completed all theoretical and professional experience requirements to become a provisionally registered teacher with the Victorian Institute of Teaching, and has chosen to commence her teaching career as an Intern, beginning on 15/7/19.
The Deakin Master of Teaching Internship Program is fully endorsed by the Victorian Department of Education and Training (DET), the Australian Education Union (AEU), the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT). Paris will be working under the general supervision and expert guidance of Jazz Campling who will act as her mentor, advising and assisting Paris to plan, prepare and take on the responsibilities of a teacher in the school over a period of 10 weeks. She will be working in the 1/2 learning community (Winkipop) with Dan, Jazz, Sarah and Chris.
Paris will become fully involved in the life of the school including, where appropriate, communicating with parents. The school regards this as an opportunity for both the Intern and the Mentor Teacher to extend their professional skills in a collegiate partnership. We are pleased to be able to provide Paris with a stimulating and supported transition to her teaching career. We hope you will make her feel welcome!
Work Experience - Owen Wallace
Owen is a Year 10 student from Lutherin College and he met with the Grade 5-6 SRC students. He talked about his journey into leadership and what it means to be a leader. They talked about using our school values as guidelines for their roles as leaders and that leaders need to wear different hats. Depending on the situation they need to show either Care, Collaboration or Commitment.
What each of our leaders took away from the conversation:
Jack H: we need to show care in the wider school community
Xavier: we need to work on some values that are lacking
Jack P: to be a role model you need to be mature because everybody looks up to you
Violet: we need to focus on the school values all the time
Charli: we need to adapt to different situations at different times, showing different values when it is needed
Sienna: we can always improve on something and I want to be more helpful to people
Maddie: you can show humour in a sensible way but you must be mature
Owen's Experience at Armstrong Creek School
Throughout my week at Armstrong Creek School, I have seen nothing but caring students both in class and out in the yard. I had the privilege of working with the Grade 1's and 2's throughout this week and have been welcomed with open arms. Armstrong Creek School's unique outlook on education has been a refreshing and exciting experience for me, and I have taken a lot away from this experience.
The supportive staff facilitated my transition into the school community, and I instantly felt at home. The staff and students at Armstrong Creek School have demonstrated all of the school's values; Care, Collaboration and Commitment. Armstrong Creek School provided a hands-on and engaging week for me, and I have developed and grown in my understanding of the education system and how it works.
Since I stepped into Armstrong Creek School to begin my work experience, everyone involved in the process helped me to achieve the goals I looked to accomplish during this week. I am honoured to have received this opportunity to explore such a diverse and growing school; I cannot wait to see what else Armstrong Creek School can accomplish!
Visiting the New School in Mount Duneed
Dehlia and I accompanied three of our SRC students this morning for a walk through and tour of the new school in Mount Duneed; Armstrong Creek West Primary School (interim name). We had an opportunity to explore the new school alongside local member of parliament, Darren Cheeseman. The students asked lots of questions and enjoyed being part of one of the first groups to explore the new buildings and grounds. Although very muddy, it was a great opportunity to strengthen partnerships within our local community.
Have a happy and safe weekend everyone.
