Hi everyone,

 

Firstly, as the year ends I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I hope it’s a time of joy shared with family and friends, and that you are able to build great memories from the upcoming festivities. For the students and  families moving on, I wish you all the very best going forward and hope that you have great memories of our school. I know you will be missed.

 

 

Christmas is coming and the kids are getting EXCITED! To keep them focused and motivated young scientists during this crazy time of year, I’ve got a list of STEM activities from Steam Powered Family for your children to get involved in to keep them busy and engaged. Enjoy!

CHRISTMAS SCIENCE ACTIVITIES

Crystal WreathsCreate gorgeous ornaments that twinkle and sparkle on the tree using simple bits of garland and an easy science experiment.

 

Rudolf RacesA physics challenge that kids of all ages love! Have a blast building and setting off your Rudolf to see who wins the race to save Christmas!

 

 

Snowy Christmas Tree ScienceSuch a fun idea! Kids love playing with oobleck and this activity gives them the challenge of building (engineering) a village before pouring oobleck over the structures and materials to see how it reacts. I know this will keep my kids busy for a long time!

 

Candy Cane Play Dough Soap & Bubble BathMake your own play dough soap and bubble bath using a very simple process even young kids can do. Scented with peppermint and shaped like candy canes these make a wonderful activity for the season.

 

Christmas Optical IllusionsWe are really enjoying exploring our sensesright now, and this Christmas activity has some illusions that are going to play games with your eyes! Can you believe what you are seeing?

 

Christmas Light Color Mixing ScienceColor mixing theory is a wonderful connection between STEM and STEAM. We love bringing a little Arts into our STEAM work at STEAM Powered Family and this activity is a simple and fun way to explore colors.

Christmas Tree ChemistryThis activity was so much fun and love making their Christmas tree creations erupt! I love that this activity brings in a little art to our STEM work.

 

Slime Balls Christmas Gifts For KidsSlime is a wonderful sensory activity and an exploration in polymers. With this activity kids make beautiful ornaments filled with slime that they can gift to their friends. Perfect!

Circuit-TreeThis is a great challenge for the older kids and is a holiday twist on our popularCircuit Bugsactivity. Create their own clothespin circuit Christmas tree that lights up!

 

LED Light Up OrnamentWe love our LEDs and circuits but Circuit-Tree can be a bit challenging for some children. This activity is a more simple circuit design.

Christmas Egg DropEgg drop challenges are new to us. I have quite a severe egg allergy, but I really love the engineering challenge in this activity. Maybe we will get a break in the weather and can do it outside. I would love to see what my kids would build!
