Fun Days and Sport
Fathers’ Day Fun
On Friday, 4th September students, fathers, grandfathers and staff of Larnook PS celebrated Fathers’ Day with a sausage sizzle. “What?” I hear you say. “You can’t do that – there’s a pandemic around! Social distancing! No large groups!”
Don’t worry. None of the rules were broken. Mrs Emerton and Gaye just thought a little creatively and decided that if the real dads and grandads can’t come to school, then at least their photo can! A4 size photos of each dad and/or grandad were mounted on cardboard and stuck on the end of bamboo sticks. The children carried their dads around, happily shared sausages with them and even cleaned up a few beards when dads dribbled their tomato sauce. Dads and grandads played in the playground, went and washed their hands, sat and chatted over lunch and a couple even climbed trees! They were mostly well behaved and some even had seconds…
After lunch, the Fathers’ Day raffle was drawn and winners declared. Here are the results:
1st Prize: A Pamper Barber Pack was won by Jay Nash
2nd Prize: $50 Bunnings Voucher was won by C. Stephens
3rd Prize: A $20 book voucher was won by Belinda Eggins
4th Prize: A Darrell Lea Pack was won by Talan
5th Prize: Lynx Toiletries was won by Myrtle
6th Prize: A bamboo screen was won by Brax
7th Prize: A giant Toblerone was won by Kirra.
The raffle raised $206 for the P & C which was an amazing effort. Thank you so much for donating prizes, for joining in the spirit of the event and sending in the photos, for supporting the raffle and buying tickets. We hope all fathers and grandfathers had a lovely day on Fathers’ Day.
World Class Hockey Tournament Comes to Larnook PS
Well, that could be a slight exaggeration…Throughout Term 3, with the wonderful coaching of Wendy (Post lady and multi-talented sports coach), we have been learning to play hockey.
Last Wednesday, as well as learning more skills, there was a special challenge for the children – an adults versus children mini tournament. As the average age of the adults involved was not far off fifty, realistically the challenge lay with the adults… Mrs Emerton, Gaye, Donna, Sherrell, Mrs Mac and Wendy took on three crack teams of Larnook students and played a series of (brief!) games. The outcome, of course, was that the adults won all games easily… Or perhaps you should check with your children for the truth…
Actually, the score wasn’t as important as the fun we had and the chance to use the skills learnt over the term. We feel very proud of how each child has improved in their game and team skills. Special thanks to Zai, for always helping to carry the heavy equipment bag. Next term, Wendy will be coaching the children in soccer. We thank her for her dedication and patience.
Ice Cream Day
On Friday 18th September we had an ice-cream day! There were flavours of chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. Our servers were Charlie, SRC Treasurer, Sonic, SRC President and Isabella, SRC Publicity Officer. She did the biggest scoops! And almost everyone wanted popping candy! We also got some good shots of people with their ice-cream! You should have seen some of them melting like crazy in the sun! I tried to get a three-scoop with more money but sadly, it didn’t work. Everyone said they wanted another ice-cream day tomorrow!

The Student Representative Council (SRC) members did a great job running ice-cream day. Charlie (Treasurer) added up the takings and the stall raised $61.95!
The last word goes to Marshall who said, Never ask a kid if they've had too much ice cream. Never!
