Year 3/4 News

Celebrating Learning

To all 3/4 Parents - welcome back to another exciting Newsletter complete with our learnings over the past two weeks, and important information for events in the not too distant future!

To begin with, we are continually impressed with the manner and active participation of the students.  We understand how challenging Home Online Learning has been, however, it puts a smile on our faces seeing the children engaged and ready to take on new learnings each day.  It is also ensuring that we as teachers continually reevaluate how we can consolidate, challenge and extend the students with active, engaging and hands on activities - keep up the great work, everyone!

We would also like to thank the students for being so flexible with some of the minor changes to the daily timetable, including more daily reading and maths clinics. Well done to those who are hopping on to the 1pm Support Zoom.

Finally, we can't be more excited about our Virtual Camp next week!  We will slowly drip feed you information so you will be ready when the virtual camp begins!  Also, don't forget to please invite all Dads / Grandfathers / special people in our lives to the Father's Day assembly this Friday hosted by Foundation.

Learning Intentions

Daily Uploads

Students are asked to continue uploading their reading and maths tasks every day. Students are also required to upload their writing tasks every Friday, as well as their weekly spelling and dictation.

Literacy

Students have been engaging in the Writing Process throughout the term. Focusing on the unpacking of a 'seed idea', identifying different text types, and the development of character & the setting in a story we have seen many have produced many thrilling pieces for all enjoy. Many children have enjoyed the opportunity to write creatively and on a text type of choice. From narratives to poetry, students have shown how imaginative and creative they can be.

With book week approaching and ensuring we continue to foster the love for literature will look forward to the many stories that the students will create this year.

The following videos were recorded to assist students in unpacking their seed and developing a main character in their narratives.

Numeracy

Over the last two weeks, we have completed our fractions unit and we are now working on time. We have even discovered that there are fractions in time! The students have been telling analogue, digital and 24 hour time and we have started to look at elapsed time as well.

Personal Passion Projects (PPP)

Wow! We have had some amazing PPPs and we would like to share a few of them.

We will continue to share the PPPs in the coming weeks.

3/4 Virtual Camp

Our 2020 Virtual Camp for the 3/4 students will take place on Monday, September 7th and Tuesday, September 8th. On these days your child’s daily activities will look different from what they have experienced in Term 3 while still trying to keep within the time schedule of a day. We will still hold our daily Zoom meetings, in both the morning and afternoons, however, the children will participate in their ‘camp activities’ through pre-recorded activities, conducted by their homeroom teacher.

These activities will be released through our interactive presentation, which can be accessed through your child’s ‘@srprestonwest’ account. Each session will be released as the days progress, to allow for your child to fully focus on, and participate in their session at hand.

Here is a sneak preview!!!
