Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to Week 6 of the term. This week our Year 3 students will celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time. Also called the Sacrament of Penance, it reminds us of God’s compassion and mercy towards all people. God is present in this sacrament to ‘… heal the broken-hearted and bind up their wounds.’ (Psalm 1 47:3).

We spend our lifetimes seeking to come into what God calls us to be, into wholeness with God who constantly seeks us out. Our human condition means that we fail at times but this Sacrament gives up the hope that we can grow out of our failings, become more, and learn to forgive each other and importantly ourselves.

St Catherine of Siena wrote, “God’s endless love embraces our human weaknesses that are always ready to offend our Creator. The medicine for our sickness in Love’s fire.” Through the Sacrament of Reconciliation, God befriends us and blesses us, we only have to take the hand of God, reaching out to offer us ‘Love’s fire.’

We pray that through the Holy Spirit, our Year 3 students will come to know God as loving, our companion, ever forgiving, and forever seeking them out to befriend.

The wonderful Irish priest Fr Daniel O’Leary wrote, “I believe only in a God who never gives up on me.” May all of our students be open to this relationship with God.

For all things at St Joseph’s, give thanks!

WANTED! Missing Library Books

A recent stocktake of the school library has revealed many missing library books that have not been returned by students. Please look through your children’s books and return any school library books as soon as possible. Perhaps organise a library books hunt or adventure to make it more fun!

When do students go into summer uniform?

Students change from winter to summer uniform on the Monday following Father’s Day, 7 September. Parents may use their discretion as to which uniform their child/ren wear in the 2 weeks following the change-over should the weather be too cold or too hot.

Girl's School Uniform

Summer

Blue school pattern tunic, white above ankle length school socks,  black polishable leather shoes.

New Option: Lowes has today advised that the new option for the girl's uniform will definitely be available at the beginning of Term 4 and hopefully earlier. This option includes a navy coloured culotte (in stock at Lowes) and a custom school blouse with a school logo.

Sports

Navy shorts, school sports polo shirt with crest, school tracksuit (jacket and pants), white above ankle-length socks and predominantly white joggers with white laces.

Note: The sports jacket is only to be worn on sports days with the sports uniform. On very cold days it may also be worn with the summer or winter uniform but over the school sloppy-joe. The school sloppy-joe should be the first choice for warmth.

Principal Appraisal

Mrs Jennifer Charadia

St Joseph's Catholic Parish Primary School, Bulli

Dear Parents and Carers

As part of the Catholic Education Diocese of Wollongong (CEDoW) Principal Professional Development Planning and Review Process, an Appraisal occurs for each Principal every four years of his or her contract. This provides system and community accountability that is aligned with the School and Improvement process, focusing on the Principal’s leadership achievements and strengths, as well as identify areas for growth and development and future directions.

The Appraisal will be occurring for your Principal Mrs Jennifer Charadia over the coming weeks and parents are invited to participate via a short survey. We use an electronic tool for the administration of this survey with Parents and Staff using a link to SurveyMonkey.

Please click or type this link for your survey.

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Appraisal2020Charadia-Parent

Surveys need to be completed before Friday, 28 August 2020. The information you provide will be kept confidential to the Panel that will be undertaking the Appraisal. If you are unable to access the electronic tool, hard copies of the survey will be available from your school’s front office.

Another part of the process is a Panel Review, which will be occurring on Wednesday, 16 September. The Panel is comprised of an external Educational Consultant, a peer Principal and a CEDoW Leadership member. On this day the Parish Priest, members of Staff, Students and a Parent representative group (approx. 12 parents) will meet with the panel. If you would like to be considered for inclusion in the parent group interview which will be scheduled for approximately 40 minutes, please speak with Mrs Jennifer Charadia.

I wish to thank you in advance for taking part in this important process which is aimed at continual enhancement of the Catholic Education provided at St Joseph's.

Yours sincerely

Carolyn Hadley

Head of Human Resource Services
