The Changing Earth

On Friday year 7 science students enjoyed their science period going for a walk up to the Rotary lookout to appreciate their local environment and supplement their learning of the unit being studied, The changing earth. Lorelei Wray, the aboriginal liaison officer helped to identify native plants and explain their traditional use and the gathering of resin. Students used the book, Wiradjuri Plant Use and the App PlantNet  on their phones to identify plants and flowers in bloom. We appreciate the help and support of Noni Zanesco during the excursion.

One Giant Leap PD

As a part of ongoing professional development, teachers from Marian Catholic College were fortunate to attend a workshop put on by One Giant Leap Australia.

One Giant Leap is an organisation with extensive NASA contacts and this workshop focused on activities and tasks for years 7-10 in the areas of space exploration. Mars is currently as close as it's going to get for a while, so lots of missions are launching towards the Red Planet, including some from ESA, NASA and the United Arab Emirates. The teachers were fortunate enough to walk on the 6.5 by 3-metre map of Mars, make rovers, design habitats and share in the passion that One Giant Leap brings to science education.
