CPSSA Swimming Carnival
CPSSA Swimming Carnival is on 10 May. For the selected students please make sure that the 'permission slip' has been returned and that your child is in possession of an OLA swimming cap. For those who do not have a school cap they are available to purchase one from the Uniform shop. I would like to have a roster for time keepers so that volunteers are only ‘on duty’ for an hour or less. Please see me in the office or email Jodie.stewart@cewa.edu.au if you are willing to time keep. Please continue to encourage your child to train for their events through the holidays leading to the Carnival. You can find the program attached with approximate times.
Running Club will commence in Term 2 (2 May) and will be held on Wednesday mornings from 8.00am until 8.20am at Waverley Reserve (opposite car park). Students are permitted to wear their sports uniform and remain in this for the school day. Students will run/walk for 20 minutes and for every lap completed they receive a mark on their arm. These marks are tallied over the course of two terms to achieve a final distance. Many students have run more than a marathon distance in this period. Parents and younger siblings are encouraged to participate in this challenge too. Parents are required to stay with their children and at the conclusion of running club, walk their child to the school gate. If this is not possible, please arrange with another parent who will take on this responsibility. It is a great way to start the day, improving fitness and stamina as we head into the Cross Country term!
Western Force Visit OLA
Last Thursday, Year 4 classes were lucky enough to have 3 players from the Western Force Rugby Team deliver a games-based skill session leading into their TAG Rugby unit next week. The players ran the students many times across the oval evading on coming taggers. They taught them how to pass effectively using an oval shaped ball. The challenge will come next term with the concept of only passing to players who are behind them whilst still progressing towards the try line. We thank Rugby WA for co-ordinating this clinic, and providing OLA with 6 brand new rugby balls. They will be providing a coach for next term’s Sporting Schools Rugby (NON contact) Club for Years 3-6. If your child is interested in finding more about Rugby in the community (Bayswater Rugby Union Club), then please visit the website perthrugby.com.au for more information, or speak to James McCort in 4M.
With Term 2 having a heavy emphasis on Cross Country, please encourage your children to attend Running Club commencing 2 May at 8.00am at Waverley Reserve. Love to see you there!
