Exploring Cubism

This term our Year 8 students have been learning about Cubist artwork and the artists who worked in this style, such as Picasso and George Braque. Cubism is a form of abstract art, where objects are analysed, broken up and reassembled in a new form—instead of depicting objects from one viewpoint, the artist depicts the subject from multiple viewpoints to represent the subject in a greater context or even show them over a period of time.

Using their knowledge of this art movement, students created their own Cubist-inspired figure with fruit, either drawing by hand or using Photoshop. Cubist traits can be squares, cubes, triangles and angular shapes and often unusual colours that can express an emotion.
