Neve's Loukoumades

Working with yeast

For the past two weeks our Year 10 Café Culture students have been working with yeast, which I must admit is an ingredient I love to work with.  With the recent cold weather and warm houses, the smell of freshly baked goods is very welcoming.

After talking about proving, kneading and baking with an online Webex demonstration, the students went off with the brief to make a savoury and sweet product.

I made Loukoumades (Greek doughnuts). This was my first time making them and they turned out really good. Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside with a decadent honey syrup to coat. Topped off with crunchy chopped walnuts these were the perfect treat. The recipe was ok to follow but I did watch a few separate videos to give me a visual when not sure. Overall my family and I really enjoyed and the recipe yielded tons of doughnuts.
