Middle Unit

Years 2 News..

This term, as part of our science unit ‘Watch it Grow’, the Year 2’s have been studying the amazing changes that occur to living things at different stages of the life cycle. Early in the term each class established a habitat for a group of mealworms whose life cycle we have been closely observing. The students have learnt to care for the mealworms including feeding them a diet of oats and potato as a source of hydration.

The first changes we observed to the mealworms was a darkening of the skin and moulting of the exoskeleton. The mealworms have now started to change from larva to the pupae stage of their life cycle and have become shorter and fatter with a large head and pale colouring.

Respectful Relationships

The Year 3 students have been learning about emotions and emotional triggers. Here are some freeze frames the students created to represent different emotions. We have been having lots of fun learning about different positive and negative emotions we might experience throughout the school day.

Reading

Congratulations to all students for remembering to read each night. In particular, we would like to celebrate the following students for reaching their first reading milestone of 25 nights of reading! Congratulations!

Spelling

A reminder that students are expected to practise their spelling words four nights a week (they can use the activities in the spelling menu provided or their own choice) so they are prepared for the test each Friday. It is expected that the students will have their spelling book at school every Monday and Friday. We have been very pleased with the student’s hard work and this has been reflected in their results.
