Carlsruhe Annexe

News..

We have had a very busy fortnight in Year 4. The students have begun their Thursday activities, became River Detectives and had a special visit from the mayor of the Macedon Ranges, Janet Pearce.

Below are some recounts written by students from CU2.

Thursday Activities

Thursday is now my favourite day of the week.  We have started Thursday activities which include woodwork, cooking, sketching, calligraphy, gardening and craft. I did sketching and we had to sketch a tapestry of the main building from a long time ago. We used oil pastels and charcoal.  I’m looking forward to making wooden pencil cases in woodwork as well as using the ink wells and writing with special pens in calligraphy.

Thank you to all the parents who volunteered their time so that we can do Thursday activities.

River Detectives

On Friday the 28th of February CU1, CU2 and CU3 all went the Carlsruhe campus.

We walked down to the Campaspe River to start our River Detectives program as well as walk the Yelka Trail.

To begin with we sketched the river, making sure we added details like the pink algae, plants and logs/stubs that were in it. After we were finished our sketches we walked the Yelka Trail, which is a short bush walk that has plaques along the sides. Each plaque taught us about a different aboriginal words and what the aboriginal people used the Campaspe River for, for example women would collect fresh water muscles from the banks of the Campaspe. At the end of the walk there is two graves of John White and William Jones, they were two European settlers that died in or near the Campaspe River.

Afterwards we walked back to school to have our lunch. I had a great day.

Meeting the Mayor

On the 2nd of March, the year 4s got to meet the mayor of Woodend Janet Pearce.

We talked about what the Macedon Ranges Shire Council did and how they help us. Janet showed us a video of a young girl from Romsey who wanted to start a girl’s cricket team. She wrote to Janet and the council helped make the young girls dream come true. Janet hen asked the Year 4s about some ideas that we had for the Macedon Ranges. Everyone came up with some great ideas.

I enjoyed meeting the mayor and learning about all the different things the council does for us.
